Mile VS Kaoru (Didn't I Say To Make My Abilities Average In The Next Life?! VS I Shall Survive Using Potions!)

Adele von Ascham, also known as Mile, the noble “average” hunter of the Crimson Vow.

Kaoru Nagase, the angel and best friend of the Goddess Celestine.

Sometimes, when you’re reincarnated into a new world, you just want to live an average and comfortable life. The problem is that sometimes the Goddesses that reincarnate you don’t give you exactly what you ask for, and things become far more complicated than they need to. Luckily, everything will be fine if you’re given an overpowered cheat ability, right? Well, when FUNA's top heroines duke it out, who comes out on top? Let’s find out in a DEATH BATTLE!

Before We Start…

The material used will be covered as follows. For Didn’t I Say To Make My Abilities Average In The Next Life, or Average Abilities, the official translations of Volume 1-20, which has not been translated into English yet. Volume 21 will be left off the table, as it is untranslated for now. The manga, anime, and spinoffs will all also be considered.

I Shall Survive Using Potions, or Potions Girl, will be similar, Volumes 1-11 will be used, and the untranslated Volume 12 will be left off the table. The manga, anime, and spinoffs will also all be considered as supporting evidence.

Background

Mile

At 10 years old, Adele von Ascham woke up with the memories of someone completely different. Her past life. That was when she realized that she was Misato Kurihara, complete loner but genius in the world she came from.

Never having many friends, but not really any enemies either, Misato drifted upon her life until she graduated high school. A genius in every field, but untouched by her peers out of fear. A life that didn't have trouble, but did bring loneliness. She hoped that maybe after graduation she could turn her life around. But before she could taste the freedoms of adulthood, her body jumped in front of a truck to protect a little girl that was crossing the street.

That was when she found herself in a pure white room, and a god standing before her ready to reincarnate her to a brand new world. As thanks for Misato's heroics, God told her that she could bring any cheat power into her new world. She just needed to pick one.

Misato refused. She wanted to reclaim her new life with her own bare hands, and she didn't want cheats outside of her pre-existing otherworldly knowledge. Thus, she simply wished that all her abilities were “completely average” in this new world. Acknowledging her request, God reincarnated Misato into her new world.

But it turned out that God was never too great at reading intentions.

Adele was born to a noble family, but her father fell ill and her mother and grandfather perished in a bandit attack. Her father started a new relationship with a mistress and attempted to wash his hands clean of Adele.  She was sent to the prestigious Eckland Academy Boarding School, where neither of them would bother each other ever again.

On that trip to Eckland Academy, she realized one thing. A viscount was the center category of statuses in the world. Her magical power and physical strength were off the charts, far beyond those of an “average” human. It seemed like God's definition of “average” wasn't the mean, median, or even mode. It was the middle category across all species on Earth! What a lazy god!

Despite her newfound power, and the ability to hear nanomachines that she shouldn't be able to hear, Adele had one goal. To live her life as a perfectly normal and average girl.

But things weren't going to be so easy, she had already made a name for herself at Eckland, and after an encounter with the Princess she had to escape at twelve years old to become a huntress of her own. Or else, her name would become too widespread amongst the world.

Donning a brand new name, Mile, she found herself taking on difficult and challenging activities at such a young age. But it was on this journey as a huntress, she would meet three new friends. Mavis von Austien, Reina, and Pauline. They would become friends fast, and together they would form the hunting party, The Crimson Vow. The bond they would have would become unbreakable, throughout all of their trials and challenges together, the four girls would become tied together by the very soul.

Though it would be a challenge keeping Mile's insane power hidden, the strength of their friendships would get them through any trouble. Throughout bandit attacks, scams, and even world-destroying threats, the Crimson Vow would always stay together. And remembering her lonely past life, and the distance everyone kept from her, maybe this new life was the life Misato Kurihara wanted this whole time.

Kaoru Nagase

Kaoru Nagase was a 22-year old salarywoman on her way home from work, before she suddenly died. She couldn’t even process what happened before seeing God standing in-front of her, apologizing profusely.

It turned out there was a localized space-time distortion in her vicinity, and Kaoru had died as a result of God trying to fix it. As recompense, God offered Kaoru a brand new life in a brand new world. Thus, she was directed to the goddess of the alternate world, Celestine. They hit it off, and became friends rather quickly. As a result Kaoru managed to ask for quite a few things in return. Her “cheat power”, as she put it.

The ability to create any potion, or medicine and their container at will. An extremely powerful ability that she was going to use for her own purposes. What were those purposes? To find herself a good man, marry him, and have as many kids as possible. She wanted her bloodline to run rampant in this new world, and her cheat power would give her the stability to do so.

And so, she set out into this world with her overpowered ability, as well as a few other bonuses, to live out her own free life doing whatever she wanted!

That’s what she thought, but it definitely wasn't what she expected. Apparently, this world wasn’t quite like your usual isekai world. Magic was a rarity, and miracles were only granted by the goddess. Kaoru’s ability to make any potion she wished, even basic healing potions, immediately made her stand out in this magic-less world. Almost instantly, her dreams of a free life were put into jeopardy.

Conflicts, wars, and arguments. Many nobles and religious leaders got interested in Kaoru’s godlike ability, and wanted to chase after her. Kaoru would spend a lot of her days dodging and avoiding these people, as she didn’t want to get shackled by the responsibilities and burdens of leading countries. All she wanted was to be free! Why did it have to be so difficult?

But Kaoru helped a lot of people, and she was a friend of the Goddess Celestine after all. That gave her an uncanny ability to make connections with others. Many people supported Kaoru as a result of her healing, and she earned many compatriots along the way. She would even embrace her title as the Angel, who spoke for the Goddess Celestine and granted impossible miracles. These friends were the Eyes, the Light, and the Servants of the Goddess, and they all wished to protect Kaoru and her dreams. With these companions by her side, maybe she could settle, and perhaps, she could find her ideal husband after all.

At least, that was until she died… again.

Turns out that calling yourself an emissary of the Goddess had its drawbacks. At one point, Kaoru halted a war by destroying the opposing nation’s, the Holy Nation of Rueda’s, claim to religious authority. She even brought the Goddess Celestine to truly dash any claims of their holiness. But, all was not well. In a plot from a destroyed nation, as revenge for stripping them of their godly authority, Kaoru was assassinated, and lost her chance at a second life.

Or so it seemed. In truth, Kaoru stored herself away in her Item Box for seventy years in stopped time. Completely vanishing her presence from the world just to escape her assassination attempt. She ended up being stuck in there with no way to get out, at least until her best friend from a previous life, Reiko, reincarnated with her own magical cheat ability before literally tearing apart dimensions to find Kaoru. Thus, Kaoru was not only given a second chance at life, but a third. And this time, she had some old friends to catch up with. Not only Reiko, but another friend, Kyoko as well.

In her third chance of life, she would wave goodbye to her life as the Angel of the Goddess. Goodbye to all of the friends and companions, who were now older than she could imagine, that she made along the way. This time, with her pre-isekai friends by her side, she will truly achieve her goal of settling down and starting a massive family.

With a shop named Little Silver, focusing on finally settling down and stabilizing, a saintly alter ego in a small attempt to help out those in need, and a new group of friends (and orphans) that would stick by her. Hopefully, the future will be brighter for Kaoru Nagase.

Experience & Skill

Mile

Mile's technique with a sword isn't incredible, as she is mostly copying from anime moves rather than actual proper technique. However, despite this, her crude technique has let her overwhelm multiple experienced swordsmen in a fight, bolstered by her superior statistics. She does call herself a “Magic Swordsman” after all, and she enters swordfights with other people often enough to back up that title. Mavis’ father, a veteran swordsman, was overwhelmed and immediately impressed by her sword abilities. And this doesn't mean she isn't skilled or creative in multiple other ways too. In fact, she was noted to straight up be a genius academically, with an almost perfect memory, scoring at the top of her class without much effort before her reincarnation. She can also come up with plans on the spot, such as when she immediately feigned possession by a Goddess in order to save her own reputation as well as schemes to get people to do what she wants. She is also very proficient at teaching, being capable of teaching a 6-year old concept real world concepts in 10 days, or showing her friends how to use the nanomachines relatively quickly.

One of the main methods of using the nanomachines is visualization, which Mile is incredibly proficient at and can call upon the nanomachines to do a wide array of things. Most commonly, she likes to fire blasts using either energy or elemental powers, which are generally on a level that can overpower any opponent with ease. This is to the point where she was ranked top of her class just using her energy without even meaning to, because of her innate knowledge on how to use the nanomachines.  Though, on rarer occasions, she uses more complex abilities such as sleeping gas or reversing an opponent’s ability to nullify magic using the nanomachines as well, to even summoning pebbles directly into an enemy’s foot to cause them to trip and incapacitate them. Though, the lasers and fireballs are her favorite, because it is simple and direct and she can show off a lot of her strength when she really needs to be in a fight.

This makes Mile one of the most capable users of the nanomachines in the entire series. A lot of her spells require strong knowledge of chemicals, mechanics, and physical processes as well as magical trivia in of itself. While the nanomachines do fill in the gaps, it does require a strong amount of potency in order to pull off her plans. This makes Mile someone that is not to be underestimated in terms of skill.

Kaoru Nagase

Kaoru isn’t necessarily much of a fighter, but she is quite the schemer. A lot of her exploits involve manipulating or conning gullible men, taking advantage of the situation at hand in order to shift things in her favor.

An example being when she managed to manipulate a baron into firing one of the guards by falsifying the source of her powers, which in return let her create a distraction needed to rob the baron blind. Another example is when she tricked the royal family of the Kingdom of Grua so as to avoid having to meet with them or when she used a temporary branch shop to get out of a shady procurement of her wares.  She is also very capable of using her common sense knowledge in ways that can help nobles and denizens of this world, such as when she provided information consulting to various others.

Kaoru is also capable of using her powers in very creative ways, as in a split second decision she managed to devise uses that she didn’t think of before. This includes stuffing herself or her allies in the Item Box as a way of ensuring safety, or creating effects that she hadn’t thought of before. She also isn’t bad at strategizing and negotiation, having brought down the Holy Kingdom of Rueda through just her religious connections and arguments using her own claimed divine authority.

This plays into the fact that Kaoru is one of the most pragmatic characters in her world. In any conflict where she is threatened, she reacts nearly instantly in accordance to the situation. When she’s being attacked by lone enemy soldiers, she will immediately kill them with a direct application of her powers. When she’s being attacked by an army, she will use explosions and smoke to disorient their forces. And when a person is trying to take advantage of her, she will instantly scheme for a way to get them back as soon as possible. So, despite her not preferring combat, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Equipment

Mile

Sword

Mile’s trusty sword. She originally got it cheap, but ended up reinforcing it using her magic several times over to make it become far more durable and powerful. Using magic, she can cut through pretty much anything as a result of her strength.

Slingshot

A small tool that Mile has which allows her to fire small crude rock projectiles at enemies. She is so powerful that these slingshot bullets are comparable to modern-day guns. The nanomachines are also capable of course-correcting Mile's shots to make her more accurate.

Kaoru Nagase

Item Box

Kaoru’s Item Box is one of her many cheats that she got to take into her new world. It is a box that connects to an alternate infinitely sized dimension where time is completely frozen. This essentially allows her to store whatever she wants with perfect preservation at her own convenience, and she is also the only one who can use it. But, this box is far more versatile than just a hammerspace, as she has applied it in multiple creative ways.

The most important thing is that she doesn’t actually need to put things into the item box physically, and can do so with just a simple thought. This allows her to essentially put anything she can think of inside the box, whether it be fluids, living things, herself, or even parts of the environment, essentially letting her carve the world to her whims. Since time is stopped in the item box, there is essentially no way out of it without the help of someone who can manipulate spacetime to pull them out of there. This makes it an exceptionally powerful tool in any combat situation, whether it be storing Kaoru’s potions or saving others.

Abilities

Mile

“Average” Physiology

Mile’s wish in the next life was to be “average”, but unfortunately, God didn’t listen properly and her “average” is actually balanced between every single living creature in existence. Since humans are on the lower-end of the spectrum, compared to people she is absurdly powerful. In specific, she is around half as powerful as the strongest Elder Dragon.

This grants her superhuman strength, speed, and resilience. Her strength has been increased to the point where she can break normal objects without even trying. Her speed to the point where she can create afterimages with just her movements and run faster than the eye could see. Her resilience to the point where minor tribulations like food poisoning aren’t of any concern to her and can eat far more than an average person can. She also has significantly bolstered senses, which are beyond that of an average human’s and can pick up smells and sounds that normal people wouldn’t be able to sense.

Nanomachines

Mile’s main source of her abilities comes from small, microscopic beings known as the nanomachines. Mile’s world has had multiple civilizations, which has collapsed a number of times. As a result, the Gods decided to perform an experiment on this world. They would release a set of nanomachines into the world, which would multiply across the world until they reached a certain density. Each nanomachine has their own artificial intelligence and can act on their own, but this is not known to people who don’t have enough authorization and cannot converse with nanomachines. These nanomachines exist all over the world, up to the atmosphere wherever birds can fly. They function by reading a person's thought process, and then converting those thought pulses into physical phenomena in reality.

Mile is the most skilled user of nanomachines in the world that isn’t a god. Her authorization was originally at Level 5, which is exactly in the average of existence, but that “average” is actually far above regular humans. Average humans are level 1 to 2, with creatures such as demons, beastfolk, and dragons can train themselves to become higher. Mile’s in particular is 6,800x stronger than a normal human’s thought pulses and about half as strong as the strongest Elder Dragon in the world. As a result, Mile has the unique ability to directly communicate with the nanomachines, allowing for conversations with them by vibrating her ears to directly tell her words. This level of authorization is because Mile is a direct descendant of the Custodians, an ancient civilization that could command the nanomachines directly. Thus, every nanomachine in the world is essentially subservient to her, and she can command them to do whatever she pleases. Her authority has gotten even stronger as of the latest books, being promoted to Level 7 in order to fight off some invaders from another world. This level of authority, Mile’s creative thinking, and her sheer power, she is pretty easily capable of replicating the effects of any uses of magic in her verse without even needing to speak, just thinking.

An important thing about the nanomachines is that they “fill in the blanks”. Mile doesn’t need to be specific at all in her thought process, she just asks for an effect and wills it to happen. Thus, the nanomachines interpret the thought process in a way that is generally beneficial to Mile and will not have any negative effects as a result of the laws of physics.

All of Mile’s powers will be listed below in accordance:

Resistances

Kaoru Nagase

Potion Factory Potions

Kaoru’s most prominent cheat ability. The Potion Factory is her self-dubbed name for the ability to create any “potion” or “medicine” she wants. This power is ridiculously versatile, and is essentially only limited by the nature of Kaoru’s imagination. She can create any liquid into a container she creates or pre-existing containers, with any effect that she wants just by desiring it. As long as there is a little bit of liquid, she can create it at her whims, even if it includes a solid component. She can also control the duration of their effect, eventually making them useless or changing effects after a certain period of time. Generally, the potions need to be applied onto either the skin or ingested to take effect, but this can be bypassed by her directly spawning the effects of the potion into a target’s body. The potential applications she has demonstrated will be listed below:

Potion Factory Containers

Kaoru can’t only just manipulate the effects of the potions, she can also control the containers they spawn in. This means she can essentially spawn in any item she wants, as long as it has a little bit of liquid in it to classify as a potion container. There are no hard limitations on this ability, and she stretches the definition of “potion container” to the widest possible degree. She doesn’t need to be precise with this ability either, as the power is fully capable of filling in the blanks to fit Kaoru's vision.

The items she has created with her potion container ability include:

Language Comprehension

Kaoru asked to be able to understand the language of the new world she came into, but Celestine took this request way too literally. Kaoru can understand and communicate with any living being that is considered sentient, and can have full-fledged conversations with them. As a result, she generally has pretty good relationships with animals, and they will generally listen to her with what she asks them to do.

This ability also lets her automatically translate codes without needing to decipher them, even if they are signals and not written down, as codes are also considered “languages”, making it so that nothing can be kept hidden from her understanding.

Automatic Defense System

A system put into place by the Goddess Celestine to prevent Kaoru from getting harmed in her new world. It is essentially an automatic system that completely nullifies damage from weaponry and other causes of harm before causing a counterstrike that kills the assailant. This system was made to counteract natural aging as well, basically preventing Kaoru from dying via most physical means.

However, despite this, there are some notable considerations in regards to the Automatic Defense System that can cause it to be circumvented. The most important is that attacks from methods that Celestine didn't consider aren't likely to trigger the Defense System, such as nuclear weapons. It was also how Kaoru managed to almost get assassinated, as the system didn’t protect against a fire and boulder trap that the Kingdom of Rueda set.

Support

Mile

Mecha Chicken

Close enough approximation (image from World of Warcraft)

A piece of ancient technology that differs from the nanomachines. They are a direct creation of the Custodians and are under Mile’s command, essentially acting as a “scavenger” that can compose parts of the world. However, Mecha-Chicken is a less-advanced machine that can speak to Mile. It functions as the Crimson Vow’s new mascot, in a sense.

The Mecha Chicken came to Mile in an attempt to construct a “Timeless One”, where across multiple galaxies, this autonomous technology is rebuilding bases among many planets to create an entity that will exist across the ages. This doesn’t really apply to Mile right now though. The Mecha Chicken is mostly there to act cute and provide Mile communication to the Slow Walker.

The Slow Walker’s most notable trait in benefit to Mile is its ability to extract resources from the ground in order to allow Mile to build things that the nanomachines normally wouldn’t have the authorization to. This would include ships and boats, far advanced from the current time period Mile is in.

Kaoru Nagase

Celestine

The ditzy, somewhat clumsy Goddess of Verny. Celestine was the Goddess in charge managing Kaoru’s transport into another world, and also the one who granted Kaoru her cheat powers. She isn’t truly a “goddess” but is instead an alien being that is tasked with watching over the space-time of worlds in order to make sure they don't collapse. Worlds which are so finely tuned, interference with god powers can cause them to be destroyed. Upon first meeting Kaoru, Celestine took a liking to the girl, mostly because another God she liked asked for Kaoru to be treated well. Thus, they have quite a good relationship.

Celestine, like all gods, are entities beyond human comprehension, only taking human form and slowing down their thoughts so that they can interact with lower lifeforms. Her immense power lets her grant powerful and versatile abilities like Kaoru’s potion factory, Reiko's magic, or Kyoko's ship creation as well as protect Kaoru from undue harm with the Automatic Defense System. But the most important thing is the sheer power of Celestine, as historically she has threatened to destroy countries various times, blow the entire planet to smithereens, cause massive natural disasters that wreck towns, and burn the entire continent to ashes. Since she is quite attached to Kaoru, her getting harmed is sufficient reason for her to step in, and Kaoru can also call upon her as she wishes.

Mile

The Crimson Vow

Mile’s best friends and partners for life, bound by blood.

Reina, the burning Crimson Mage.

Mavis von Austien, the noble swordsman.

Pauline von Beckett, the shrewd mage merchant.

They have gone through so many adventures together, from daily quests to saving the entire world. Mile has basically taught them everything that they know. As a result, she is the strongest member of the Crimson Vow and thus would upscale any feats they perform.

Lily Lockwood

Lily Lockwood is a character from the best book in the entire series of Average Abilities and I'm definitely not just putting her here because I want an excuse to give her a mention. She was a deaf girl who was locked away by her family as a result of this, but when her family was kidnapped by bandits she was the only one left.

Mile and her party eventually found her, and as a favor, the hunter used her overpowered abilities to heal her deafness. This gave the little girl the ability to hear for the first time. From that point onward, she headed out with the only servant remaining, Lafine, to experience a world that she has never heard before. Thus starting a very sweet story about struggle, forgiveness, fighting and experiencing life for what it truly is. Lily's spinoff is the best book in the series. I quite like it.

Mile's healing had the unexpected effect of giving Lily the ability to communicate with the nanomachines, just like Mile herself. Thus, her ability to use magic skyrocketed to an incredible degree. As the top tier of the verse, Mile would scale above Lily's feats.

Elder Dragons

Mile has fought and beaten Elder Dragons multiple times before, despite her strength being only half of one. This is because her strength is not half of the average Elder Dragon, but the strongest Elder Dragon in the world, putting her above multiple regular Elder Dragons as a result. Thus, she would be able to upscale all of the feats performed by the Elder Dragons.

Kaoru Nagase

Reiko Kuon (Debatable)

The one of only two humans in the verse with powers that weren’t granted by Kaoru, Reiko Kuon is one of Kaoru’s childhood friends from a previous life who lived a full life before passing away due to old age. Upon death, she was given the same opportunity as Kaoru to reincarnate with cheat powers, having asked for the ability to use every type of magic and to have unlimited MP. While Reiko and Kaoru have never fought, it may be possible for them to scale to each other via having the same kind of cheat ability that is only limited by their imagination.

Weaknesses

Mile

Mile is a lot of things. Some good, some bad. The bad parts stick out sometimes though. She's airheaded, dense, and lacks a lot of common sense. She misses a lot of basic social cues and also ends up not thinking things through, which is a large part about how she gets recognized so often. While this doesn't necessarily affect her in combat, it does impact a lot of her plans in the long term. Sometimes things don't necessarily go as she'd expect, even when she thinks it's obvious.

Mile is still bound by the laws of physics in a lot of senses. Even if she is undamaged by an attack, she will still be sent flying due to her weight being unable to hold her ground against a sufficiently powerful attack.

Her sense enhancements, on top of her already naturally high senses, can have pretty nasty unintended effects on her, and a strong enough smell has instantly knocked her out before.

Kaoru Nagase

Kaoru, despite her common sense intelligence, is a fair bit careless. It is very easy to make her slip-up or catch her off-guard, and sometimes she will occasionally forget about important things like incidentally deciphering uncrackable codes with her ability, forgetting to hide things in her item box, or forgetting to transform into a disguise when she really needs to. She can also be downright slow at times and have obvious things go over her head.

She is also unable to revive from instant death if it ever happened to her. With the blindspots that the Automatic Defense System has, she is not truly unkillable.

Before the Verdicts

Noukin’s Kinetic Energy

So, a thing that came to mind upon researching Noukin that would be very important to this match in particular is Mile’s speed. There is a feat where the nanomachines fire off “particle beams” as part of Mavis’ attacks against a demon enemy, and the demon manages to block them after they are fired. This would obviously be Lightspeed reactions or relatively close, but this feat comes with a pretty major caveat.

In the series, multiple times, it is stated that Mile is not exempt from the laws of physics. This specifically includes the laws of kinetic energy. This poses a pretty significant problem for anything in regards to lightspeed, because mass becomes infinite when you approach lightspeed. Now, normally this would be ignored, but it is noted that the strength of Mile’s physical attacks explicitly come from her kinetic energy. If she could move at lightspeed, then this wouldn’t line up with the strength of her attacks. And when Mile fights, there are never any relativistic effects that are involved, which is strange considering how physics-bound Noukin’s usual world is. This would also apply to the rest of the Crimson Vow, who are relatively more normal and also should be under relativistic effects.

With this in mind, it’s pretty hard to comfortably apply Lightspeed reactions and combat speed to anybody in the Noukin-verse, with the exception of the nanomachines who already bend reality and physics and have an explicit lightspeed statement in terms of their processing. While you can argue that other verses also break their own verse caps, there’s no feats that particularly break this cap either outside of the one lightspeed feat. So, for the purposes of this blog, the particle beam feat will NOT be included in the verdict.

Verdict

Stats

The first important factor in this battle between these two cheating heroes, what kind of power are they packing? However, this is going to be the most straightforward section, and there’s no particular need to sugarcoat it. Mile absolutely blows Kaoru herself out of the water in terms of sheer force, and the comparison doesn’t even come close.

Kaoru’s bombs can destroy carriages, wreck armies, and are equivalent to kilojoules of energy. Comparable to a lot of modern grenades. Mile can conjure up a nuclear bomb with kilotons of energy. Kaoru’s cloudsplit, while the calc is heavily lowballed, can disperse wispy clear clouds. Mile can fill the entire horizon with thick storm clouds in just a single second. Just at a baseline, Mile easily outdoes all of Kaoru’s feats and surpasses them several times over.

Even being generous, and scaling Kaoru to Reiko, who can use her magic to singlehandedly gouge out a visible hole in a mountain from a mile away, getting an impressive 12.5 kilotons of TNT with some generous assumptions. But no matter what you assume for this feat, it is always going to pale in comparison to Mile’s Sunshine Destroyer, which is her redirecting all the energy emitted by the sun as an attack to strike at a foe. The amount of energy the sun unleashes in one second is equal to 47 petatons of TNT!  The nanomachines are capable of amping Mile’s physicals to her desires too, meaning that she would most likely scale directly. That’s an over 3.7 trillion times difference!  What this essentially means for the battle is that any stray hit from Mile will absolutely kill Kaoru, while any physical attack from Kaoru will do pretty much close to nothing. With this kind of difference, it’s clear that Mile takes strength over Kaoru by herself.

But there is one more factor to take into account, and that is Kaoru’s friend Celestine, whom she can summon at a whim. She has a very direct statement of being able to blow up the planet, putting her at Planetary strength, and she seems to be very casual about it too. That would put Celestine directly above even Mile’s Sunshine Destroyer, making her the strongest entity in this battle. However, Kaoru needs to summon her first, and she isn’t necessarily in the fight to begin with. Thus, it would be disingenuous to say that Kaoru takes strength because of Celestine’s presence. Mile still has the advantage overall, but there is still a little bit of leeway for Kaoru to fight back.

Speed is a bit more complicated. At the highest end, both have potential lightspeed arguments, but also both of them are pretty poor. Kaoru can somewhat move in tandem with her light in the anime, but it’s pretty clear that this is an animation quirk of the light being animated with constant movement rather than any actual demonstration of speed, as everybody else in the scene (who are regular humans) are also reacting to the light. Plus, they are barely moving, you’d have to be really stretching to even consider it a “feat”. Mile has the particle beam feat, but it is contradicted by the multiple statements of kinetic energy in the Average Abilities verse.

Now, this is not an equal leeway argument. Mile very clearly has the better feat in regards to actually moving at lightspeed, and leeway would favor her. However, it is possible to believe that both of these feats are bad and should not be used, as both have significant flaws, even if one is more flawed than the other.

There is also a potential lightning feat for Mile, but once again, there is a caveat. The lightning blocking feat comes from Everyday Life, a spinoff manga not written by the main author. Lightning is treated as super fast in the novels as well, and obviously would have kinetic energy ramifications. There is also the fact that an Elder Dragon performed a similar feat of blocking lightning, and blatantly had to use aimdodging in order to do it. It is not unlikely that Mile has the very same ability to sense changes in the clouds, and react accordingly. So, it’s hard to say Mile can truly fight at lightning speeds, and at best it would be an instinctive reaction to similar projectiles or attacks.

So, where does that leave speed in terms of how fast they can properly fight? Well, Kaoru has been explicitly stated to move things at supersonic speeds and amplify things to that level with her potions, so she should scale as a result of those amps, putting her at Mach 1. Meanwhile, Mile’s arm has enough kinetic energy stored in it to shoot a slingshot at a similar force to a Magnum Hunting Rifle, which can fire at around Mach 3 speeds. Thus, giving Mile a pretty clearcut 3x speed difference. Not a blitzworthy gap, but still quite a notable one.

With this, Kaoru by herself is hopelessly outmatched in stats. Mile is faster to a notable extent, and is trillions of times stronger at her personal best. The only exception would be against Celestine, who would be the strongest entity on the field. But, with everything considered the category very cleanly is in Mile’s favor, with her stats being far too above Kaoru’s own average to deal with without resorting to a summon.

Cheat Powers

This is the meat and bones of the debate, who has the better cheat power? Both of these girls have powers that essentially allow them to do whatever they want, with the only limits being their imagination. If they think about an ability, it is very likely they can just manifest it into reality, which makes this comparison fairly complicated on the surface.

So, let’s look directly at their list of abilities. More specifically at the powers they share, first. It is important to see who has the better version of each power, and how important they are in the fight.

PowerWho’s Better?
Unconsciousness InducementEqual. Both of them can induce unconsciousness in another person instantly.
Elemental ManipulationMile. Kaoru has only been directly shown to manipulate fire, water, and light. Mile can manipulate those elements, but also ice, earth, wind, and darkness. Her AP advantage would also make this squarely in her favor. It should be noted that Kaoru can spawn these directly onto a person, which Mile can do but with much less frequency to Kaoru.
Explosion ManipulationMile. Kaoru’s explosions are equivalent to grenades, and Mile’s powers are equivalent to nuclear bombs, including the radiation.
Inventory MagicEqual. Both have a dimension where time is completely stopped that they can put other people into if they want. They also both don’t need to use physical contact.
CreationKaoru. She can create things instantly, compared to Mile who needs to build things with the resources around her.
Magical EnhancementMile. The stats advantage would put any amps cleanly in her favor compared to Kaoru’s own.
ShapeshiftingEqual. Both can change their shapes to whatever they wish using their respective cheat powers.
HealingMile. Both can heal lethal wounds, long term damage, and fatigue.  But Mile has been shown to reconstruct entire lost limbs, which isn’t something Kaoru has done. Though neither of them can heal someone who is already dead.
Biological ManipulationKaoru. The nanomachines are able to destroy flesh, but Kaoru can directly decapitate people without even giving them a second look. This isn’t an ability Mile has a counter to.

So, the two of them seem pretty equal in terms of shared powers on the surface. Mile has significant advantages in terms of elemental manipulation and magical enhancement, while Kaoru has more powerful biological manipulation and creation. However, there are a few factors which will be important later for Kaoru’s powers. Next, would be a brief look at their unique powers. And when you look at this, you’ll notice in terms of sheer versatility, things start to slide pretty heavily in Mile’s favor.

First off, she can ask the nanomachines for information, since Kaoru wouldn’t be of her world and thus wouldn’t be bound to any restrictions. While the nanomachines can’t tell her every single aspect of Kaoru’s powers, they can give her real time feedback on any of her movements. They communicate directly using Mile’s own thoughts, so this would be very helpful.

Next, is the variety of powers that Mile has in which Kaoru does not have an equivalent to. Gravity manipulation, matter manipulation, and magic draining are all notable abilities that Kaoru would not counter. She can create forcefields, dispel magic, and completely shut off abilities with her own authority. The latter would be an instant win condition in any scenario.

Mile is also just far better at manipulating the world around her, as her sound manipulation and light manipulation can be used to mask her presence or create changes in senses. Her weather manipulation can attack Kaoru from the skies. She can duplicate herself with dolls controlled by nanomachines. And finally, her most powerful ability, the Sunshine Destroyer, can tear through space itself for an instant kill.

Comparatively, Kaoru’s unique abilities are a bit lesser in terms of quantity. However, one may note that her unique abilities are very potent in this fight. This leads to her having quite a few of her own advantages in the comparison of their powers.

To begin with, essentially all of Kaoru’s abilities can be spawned directly onto an opponent. Mile also has some abilities that can do the same, but it’s only a few out of many. Meanwhile for Kaoru, it’s essentially her entire kit. This is especially notable because Kaoru’s unique abilities are super deadly. Poisons, paralysis, and pain manipulation are all abilities that can instantly incapacitate a person if they are afflicted with it. She also has the ability to wipe the memories or control the minds of others with her potions, granting her multiple powerful instant win abilities.

Then, there is her trump card, her horn that can summon Celestine. This is the peak of Kaoru’s potency, as it is summoning a planetary deity that can essentially end the fight instantly upon getting involved. Mile has no comparison to a summon as powerful as that.

And finally, she has her Automatic Defense System. A system set up by Celestine that prevents Kaoru from taking damage… from sources that Celestine is aware of. This is a puzzling piece of the debate because of its limitations, especially in regards to weaponry. However, its existence completely negates the usage of Mile’s sword and slingshot, rendering physical attacks completely moot, and potentially even a losing condition for Mile.

So with all that taken into account, Mile clearly trumps Kaoru in terms of sheer versatility, while Kaoru seems to have the edge in terms of potency. This makes it very difficult to make a call either way in terms of whose cheat powers are superior. As a result, let's put a pin in this category for now, and move onto the next one.

Possibilities

So, we have two girls who can do anything and have multiple ways to win. It’s clear we can’t only paint the picture of what happens in broad strokes, because something that must be understood is the general flow of the fight. Who takes what action first is very important to the win, and to see who wins most of the time, we’ll have to see how each of their abilities play out in battle. Only then, can we determine who has the better cheat ability, and as a result, the winner of this matchup.

So, we’ll break down each scenario into three parts. What happens, who it favors, and how likely it is to occur. Once we get a comprehensive picture, we’ll see which character comes out on top more often with everything taken into account. Think of it like a probability wheel. We’re in for a lot of scenarios, because we’ll have to match the multiple options that both of these very versatile characters have.

Scenario 1: Mile Uses Physical Attacks

What Happens: Mile uses either her sword or slingshot to run forward and immediately strike Kaoru in an attempt to kill her using her strength advantage.

Who’s Favored: This is the most straightforward scenario, because no matter what Kaoru does, there will only be one outcome. Mile is obviously physically superior to Kaoru in just about every regard and also significantly more skilled when it comes to swordplay and experience, so it looks like she can just stab her with her sword, correct? After all, any single solitary hit would instantly kill Kaoru.

Well, it’s not as simple as that. This is because of Kaoru’s Automatic Defense System, which is specifically designed to negate attacks such as swords and physical projectiles. Mile going for a swing would get completely nullified by the system, dealing no damage to Kaoru at all. And worse, it’d activate Celestine’s counterhit, which is a lightning bolt summoned from the sky to strike her down. Due to Celestine’s power, this would instantly kill Mile on hit.

There is an argument to be made that Mile could dodge the bolt of lightning. Mach 3 and the limited precognition she has is more than enough to evade cloud-to-ground lightning if she knows where it’s coming from, and she has even done so in the past. But it doesn’t particularly matter because the nullification would buy Kaoru more than enough time for the girl to use one of her own instant win abilities as Mile is trying to figure out why her attacks aren’t dealing any damage. Thus, it doesn’t matter what Kaoru does in this scenario, Mile going for physical attacks is an instant loss for her. This scenario favors Kaoru.

How Likely: Mid-High. Mile has two parts of her moveset, her “magic” and her “swordsmanship”. She is a magic swordsman after all. While she uses the nanomachines relatively often, she has a soft spot for good old swordplay, which is not great against an adversary like Kaoru.

Scenario 2: Kaoru Summons Celestine

What Happens: Kaoru uses her device to call Celestine to the battlefield in an attempt to use her powerful goddess abilities against Mile.

Who’s Favored: This is a similar scenario to the previous one. Kaoru summoning Celestine would be an instant win condition, because of how powerful Celestine is. So, calling her to the battlefield should spell the death of Mile. But, that’s only if Kaoru can summon her fast enough.

Mile is three times faster than Kaoru, and while that’s not a blitz, that is fairly notable. It means that Mile can do quite a bit before Kaoru can, and summoning Celestine is a fairly complicated ritual. She needs to create the device, throw it into the air, and then wait for Celestine to hear it and appear. This is quite frankly not feasible against someone over three times faster.

Now as mentioned, the Automatic Defense System can help Kaoru stall, and if Mile goes for physical attacks then it should help her stall enough for Celestine to arrive and nuke Mile off the battlefield. But, as said before the Automatic Defense System has very notable blindspots, and that’d include attacks not of Kaoru’s world. And a large portion of Mile’s attacks are nanomachines, which Celestine would not have set up any automatic defense for. So, even something as simple as an energy blast would completely obliterate Kaoru with a single shot.

So, with such a slow and clunky option, Kaoru will lose almost every time she goes for this choice. The only exception being is if Mile also starts with physical attacks. This scenario favors Mile.

How Likely: Mid-Low. Kaoru has only ever summoned Celestine directly in the presence of spacetime distortions, and never in a direct combat scenario. While it is within her options to do so, it’s pretty clearly not her go-to.

Scenario 3: Mile’s Magic VS Kaoru’s Explosions

What Happens: Mile uses literally any of her magical abilities, while Kaoru uses her explosions or any other ability that results in a direct clash with Mile (like her object creation).

Who’s Favored: We’re getting into the territory where the moves of both combatants are relevant now. However, I’m going to be lumping Mile’s projectile magic (elemental manipulation, explosion manipulation) with her non-projectile magic (sleep manipulation, power nullification) here because it doesn’t really matter what happens. Mile is going to win every single time if Kaoru decides to try and blow her up with naphtha or something like that. Her durability is far too high to be even remotely damaged by such a meager attack, that it’s likely that she will walk through it and just hit Kaoru with any of her magical abilities. Or she could just nullify it entirely with her hands, as that is also something Mile can do. And after that, all Mile’s magical attacks would bypass the Automatic Defense System and instantly vaporize Kaoru to dust. This scenario favors Mile.

How Likely: Mid. Mile is a mage, and she has used her magic in combat repeatedly, so it’s a certainty in a lot of scenarios she is willing to use the nanomachines to attack. Kaoru’s use of explosions is a bit more conservative, as she has primarily used them for intimidation or destruction tactics. She has used them in combat before, but in one-on-ones, she might be less inclined to go for them.

Scenario 4: Mile’s Non-Projectile Magic VS Kaoru’s Non-Projectile Magic

What Happens: Both Mile and Kaoru go for their attacks that don’t involve any projectiles. For Kaoru, this is essentially her entire kit, but most relevantly, her biological manipulation, acids, poisons, and memory manipulation. For Mile, this would be abilities like her power nullification, earth manipulation and sleep manipulation.

Who’s Favored: This is a clearcut Mile victory, directly as a result of her speed advantage. If both immediately shoot for their thought-based abilities on the quickdraw with absolutely no travel time, then Mile would get hers off first and instantly incapacitate or kill Kaoru. This scenario favors Mile.

How Likely: Mid. Kaoru in battle does consistently go for her thought-based abilities like acids, poisons, and biological manipulation. The issue is with Mile. She has used her power nullification a total of once as a response to an enemy trying to power null her and her earth manipulation once while facing a large group of enemies. But her sleep manipulation is a more commonly used ability, having been used a few times in combat when in danger. It’s not her most common opening though.

Scenario 5: Mile’s Projectile Magic VS Kaoru’s Instant Wins

What Happens: Mile decides to fire off an elemental attack or energy beam at Kaoru, while Kaoru immediately uses either her memory manipulation or biological manipulation to rip Mile’s head off.

Who’s Favored: This one is a little bit more complicated, because it’s a quickdraw. Both of these attacks would instantly kill or incapacitate the opposing side due to their lack of direct resistances. One would normally expect the faster one to win a quickdraw, in which Mile is. However, it’s just not as simple as that.

As mentioned multiple times in this verdict, Kaoru has the ability to directly spawn attacks on her opponent with a thought. This is far better than Mile who generally attacks with projectiles a lot of the time. Now, this comes down to what you believe would hit first. In which, I believe this scenario would favor Kaoru, despite Mile’s speed advantage.

A 3x speed advantage is notable, but it’s not blitzing. And in order to commit this action, Mile has to do a lot more than 3x the movement that Kaoru does. She needs to think, raise her hands, and then command the nanomachines to fire a projectile that travels a distance to hit Kaoru. Meanwhile, Kaoru simply just needs to think. She doesn’t even need to be looking at Mile, and her head could explode or get chopped off. The same would apply to Kaoru’s memory and mind manipulation as well. The fact that Kaoru needs to do far less movement in order to get this win condition off, means that this should land squarely in her favor despite the speed disadvantage. This scenario favors Kaoru.

How Likely: High. This is probably the single most likely scenario to happen, as magical projectiles are probably Mile’s most commonly used tactic. Kaoru also immediately strikes with her instant kills the second it looks like she’s in any reasonable amount of danger, or it looks like she’s about to get attacked. Though memory manipulation in particular she hasn’t used often, biological manipulation is one of her go-tos in a serious battle.

Scenario 6: Mile’s Projectile Magic VS Kaoru’s Acids and Poisons

What Happens: Mile shoots a projectile to kill Kaoru while Kaoru attempts to spawn acid, poison, or water directly into Mile’s body.

Who’s Favored: This one is separated from the previous scenario because the events will play out differently. While everything about Kaoru’s method of attack being more efficient than Mile’s holds true here, Mile actually has a little bit of counterplay in this regard. Most notably, the healing of her nanomachines. If Kaoru goes for her acids or poisons, Mile can quickly respond and ask the nanomachines to cleanse her body of the toxins and heal her internal damage, preventing her death. That seems like a Mile favored scenario, right?

Well, you’d have to consider what would happen after. Mile suddenly feeling her insides get melted would definitely throw her off her game, and she would need to take time away from her attack to ask the nanomachines to heal her. This means that Kaoru would have more than enough time to see Mile recovering, realize it, and immediately transfer over to Scenario 5 and lop her head off with her biological manipulation. This isn’t something the nanomachines can counter, because Mile would be completely dead at this point and thus can’t command a counter. So, in this scenario, the poisons don’t necessarily work as a win condition in of themselves, but they work as an effective stall towards Kaoru’s true win condition. Thus, even with Mile’s counter, this scenario favors Kaoru.

How Likely: High. As said, insta-kills are Kaoru’s specialty. While between her biological manipulation, poison manipulation, acid manipulation, and water manipulation, she doesn’t have a strong preference, they all lead to the same scenario anyways.

Final Probabilities

This isn’t a full comprehensive list of every single possible scenario that could go down in this battle, because there are a lot. But there’s one thing you’ll notice among the six notable possibilities. While they’re equal in winning scenarios, the way both of these characters act means that if you were to run this battle over and over again, Kaoru is the more pragmatic one out of the two. This means that she is more likely to go for her win conditions, and as a result the three scenarios where Kaoru wins are the most likely. Even despite the speed disadvantage, the nature of Kaoru’s arsenal makes her more limited options far more deadly and efficient than Mile’s own options.

So, while Mile wins a lot of these scenarios via her stat gap, it seems like her mindset is going to be her downfall here. A projectile attack is simply far less effective than a vectorless instant kill, and Mile’s own likelihood for vectorless methods are far less likely to see use given Mile’s general standard tactics. The fact that Kaoru completely shuts down Mile’s physical strength advantage and turns it against her is also not helping.

So, with these cheat powers, it doesn’t seem like the victor is the one who can do the most, but the one who uses it the best. After running through every possibility, it seems like Kaoru will just eke out a victory in Possibilities over Mile, and as a result also surpasses Mile in terms of Cheat Powers too.

Mile

"There’s Kurihara Misato, the girl who died at eighteen.

There’s Adele von Ascham, the young noble girl, whose consciousness was combined with mine at ten.

And then, there’s the girl I am now: Mile of the Crimson Vow, the C-rank hunter who fights alongside her friends, who’s achieved all I dreamed of in my past life.

All three of my lives, all three of their dreams. Their hopes and their feelings. If the enemies are three-fold, then I have to summon three-fold strength as well, don’t I?”

Advantages:

  • Far stronger to a significant degree.
  • Faster to a notable extent.
  • Significantly more versatile, and can do a lot more with her powers than Kaoru.
  • Any magical attack of hers will bypass the Automatic Defense System and instantly kill Kaoru.
  • Would win in a quickdraw if both used their thought-based abilities.
  • Can cancel out the effects of Kaoru’s poisons and acids with the healing of the nanomachines…
  • Far superior battlefield control and range due to the nanomachine’s field warping and Sunshine Destroyer.
  • The nanomachines can feed her information on what Kaoru does and provide real-time feedback.
  • Significantly more skilled in terms of power application and combat experience.
  • Can dodge Celes’ lightning from the Automatic Defense System…
  • Her life is blissful and ignorant, despite all of the terrible things going on around her.
  • Waho waha!

Disadvantages:

  • Loses in any scenario where she uses physical attacks due to the Automatic Defense System.
  • Has no counters to Kaoru directly decapitating her with biological manipulation, or wiping her memories with her potions.
  • Has a preference for projectile attacks, which gives Kaoru time to use her instant win conditions.
  • In-character, has gone for her instant win options far less than Kaoru has.
  • …but this leaves her vulnerable to any of Kaoru’s instant wins, as it would break her focus.
  • …but this doesn’t matter because it would still leave Kaoru with an opening to kill her.
  • Far weaker than Celestine, and if Kaoru summoned her then Mile would lose instantly.
  • Anime adaptation is weeeeeirdddddd

Kaoru Nagase

"I’m getting resurrected in my own body, and I get to be younger too! I’m gonna make tons of Nagase family descendants, and our genes are gonna run rampant over there!"

Advantages:

  • Her entire kit will spawn directly on Mile, making it far more efficient with no travel time involved. Thus making it so that she would win in a quickdraw if Mile does not go for her thought-based abilities.
  • Has multiple instant win conditions, such as biological manipulation and memory manipulation, that would bypass Mile’s strength and durability advantage.
  • Her abilities in general are just more directly deadly than Mile’s are.
  • Far more likely to go for her instakills than Mile is.
  • Her poisons and acid would be very effective at distracting Mile, allowing her time to use one of her instant win conditions.
  • The Automatic Defense System means that she wins any scenario where Mile goes for physical attacks.
  • Is better at creating objects than Mile, as she does not need to gather resources first in order to use her object creation.
  • Celestine is the strongest player in this fight, and would instantly win Kaoru the match if she was summoned…
  • The most unhinged FUNA protagonist.

Disadvantages:

  • Far weaker, and any direct attacks by Kaoru will not do anything to Mile.
  • Slower, and as a result loses in a quickdraw where both of them use their thought-based abilities.
  • Her poisons and acids are not instant win conditions like they usually are, because Mile is fully capable of countering their effects.
  • The Automatic Defense System would not protect Kaoru against any magical attacks created by the nanomachines due to its specificity.
  • Far less versatile than Mile is, and she doesn’t have direct counters to a lot of Mile’s abilities.
  • Significantly less skilled in terms of combat experience and power application.
  • Worse battlefield control due to her more limited field warping.
  • …but the way to summon Celestine is very clunky and slow, making relying on her an unlikely scenario.
  • Is an adult woman stuck in the body of a teenager because of her immortality. This makes her marriage prospects very unlikely.

This fight was way more complicated to analyze than you’d think, even with Mile being very obviously stronger. These girls are so versatile, and have so many options, that you’d need to run this battle at least a hundred times to see who has the edge. And once you do, you’d still find the number of scenarios where either wins to be very close.

However, Kaoru would just barely eke out the edge. Mile is way stronger, significantly faster, and can instantly kill her with a single projectile. But Kaoru is more deadly, efficient, and pragmatic in regards to her combat strategy. She is far more likely to go for her thought-based abilities than Mile is for hers, and with those abilities she has multiple direct paths to a victory. All she needs to do is rip Mile’s head off with one of her specialty moves, after all.

The Automatic Defense System also completely shuts down another avenue of winning for Mile entirely, and instead turns it into an advantage for Kaoru. And while Mile would obviously win in a prolonged drawn out fight, Kaoru would know better than to let the fight drag on for any longer than it needs to. Mile needs to start off with her instant wins, and unfortunately, with everything to take into account, it seems like her naivete wouldn’t let her snatch the majority of wins in this scenario. Thus, in a razor-thin debate between these two reincarnated protagonists, it seems like Kaoru Nagase shall survive another day.

Afterword

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my first ever blog! I’m pretty nervous doing this, because it’s my first time doing any of these things solo, so it’s all just my takes and opinions. Still, I hope you enjoyed going through these characters and bearing with my rambling! This obviously isn’t the most  eye-catching matchup, as the characters themselves are quite obscure, but that’s the purpose of this blog. To cover very obscure characters that don’t get a lot of attention otherwise, and generally my other hyperfixations or things that I would like to cover. This is more of a personal project than anything, and I consider anyone else who’s invested enough in learning about new things to join me.

Noukin is a book series that I read in middle school, even before the anime came out, and I thought it was cute enough. I was on a big binge of CGDCT series, and Noukin scratched that itch strongly enough. On the other hand, I don’t have as strong of a connection with Potions Girl, because I read it specifically for this blog. They’re both fun enough series, and if you can get past a little bit of weirdness, you can have an enjoyable enough time. Neither of these verses have gotten a deep dive before, and that’s mostly what I want to do with these blogs. I don’t really have any other matches in mind for these verses, outside of Azusa Aizawa vs Mile which is fun. But, there was a surprising amount to talk about when it came to this and honestly the debate wasn’t what I was fully expecting.

Stay tuned for more blogs! As a forewarning, while I am not opposed to covering popular series, I want to stay in my lane and mostly cover series that I don’t think would be getting coverage otherwise without my specific fixations. Also, I’m more inclined to cover matchups where I can just talk about characters I like, which actually the next time qualifies for. So, without any further delays, I have a next time to announce.
