Midori VS Abraham Gray (Your Turn To Die VS Angels of Death)
![]() |
Midori, the sadistic Floormaster of the 4th and 5th Floors of Your Turn To Die.
Abraham Gray, the holy guardian of Floor B2 of Angels of Death.
The human mind is so complex, varied, and far beyond our normal comprehension. In order to get as much information about it, there is very little else one can do but observe. The best way to do so is in trials. Death games, perhaps. But these two death game masters are a little bit more involved than just “observation”. Will holy salvation claim Midori? Or will it be Abraham’s turn to die? Let’s find out in a DEATH BATTLE!
Before We Start…
HEAVY SPOILERS for both games, but especially Your Turn To Die. Midori is a character that is fairly involved with all of the mysteries within that game, and it’ll be impossible to avoid all of the twists that the game throws at you while analyzing him. Your Turn to Die is also not finished yet, and we know that he might play a role in the final chapter. So, we might be working with incomplete information (but also it’s taking a million years for this next chapter to come out).
Due to the nature of both of these characters, this battle will have a fairly nonstandard ruleset. This will be covered in the Fight Setup section. But to touch upon it, it must first be standardized what exactly both of these characters will be getting.
Material-wise, Midori will be getting the main game and the manga adaptation. Your Time to Shine will also be checked, because it contains fairly important character moments, but the game itself isn’t canon. However, it can be used as supporting evidence for feats.
Abraham will be getting all variations of the Angels of Death story. The games (the main game, Episode.Eddie), manga (the main one and the prequel, Angels of Death 0), and anime will all be considered, as well as any posts on Makoto Sanada’s patreon which contains the novelization for the Angels of Death prequel. Though the LN won't be outside of the first volume due to lack of good translations.
But obviously material isn’t the only thing involved. These characters are both built around their traps and support systems, which will also be the main focus of this matchup. So, who and what exactly is within reasonable bounds for both of them to get?
Abraham is very simple. He is the owner and master of the entire building, so he would get everyone and everything within it. This would include all of the traps and the floor guardians, for they are all his “angels” and he has command over them. Thus, the supporting combatants he would get are: Rachel Gardner, Isaac Foster, Edward Mason, Catherine Ward, and Daniel Dickens. Shin and Gregory Campbell from Angels of Death 0 will also be considered, as they are also Abraham’s Angels, even if they do not appear in the main story.
Midori is a bit more complicated. He is only the master of Floors 4 and 5, and he isn’t the head of ASU-NARO or anything, even if he is a high-ranking member of it. The floor masters themselves seem to operate as independent entities, and Midori definitely doesn’t have command over any of them. However, as a high-ranking member of ASU-NARO, when building traps, he should theoretically have access to their technology and has repurposed traps for earlier floors before. So, all traps within YTTD are fair game, though they will be labeled if Midori has never used them personally with an ASU-NARO label.
One argument can be made for Tia Safalin, however. As it is implied that Midori has asked her to do things for him in the past. However, Safalin also played a direct role in Midori’s downfall, which puts her allegiance into question. So, I won’t be including her, though Midori would probably be able to access her technology.
For the rest of his support, he will be getting all of the obstructors, because he is capable of reprogramming them to do what he wants, which would include The Monster, The Book Obstructor, and Maple. He will also get Hinako Mishuku, the one ASU-NARO agent that is directly associated with him. However, there are arguments to be made for whether he can get the more generic dolls, so they would be included as well.

Midori
Background
![]() |
ASU-NARO. An upstanding company that focuses on medical research, yet underneath the surface hides a dark secret. Reproducing humans, illegal medicines, and most dangerous of all… a Death Game. One where participants are forced to kill each other in games and Majority Votes, until only one remains. The toll that this must take on a person to survive would be incredible, and that psychological conditioning was of great interest to Sou Hiyori.
Sou was a cruel and sadistic man, who always took pleasure in feeling superior to others and making them feel uneasy. This gave him a love for humans, and a love for seeing them break. Skilled in manipulating human memory, these qualities lead him to working as an agent for ASU-NARO, and given his biggest assignment yet: gathering participants for the aforementioned Death Game. Those that have signed away their lives to ASU-NARO, under his own convincing at the very least. Sou was very good at that.
Though, one of those meetings didn’t go exactly as Sou would have liked. His meeting with Alice Yabusame. The man discovered he was manipulating his sister and in a rage threw Midori off of a balcony, piercing his head. “Killing” him.
Sou did not die yet, though. But, this incident lost him his right to participate in the Death Game, where he could truly observe his contestants. And what was even worse, a certain Shin Tsukimi stripped him of his very name, taking it as his own. Despite all of this, he still watched the Death Game with great interest. Especially one Sara Chidouin.
The perfect contestant. The most ruthless and cunning of them all, with the highest winrate. This mindset fascinated Midori, as he watched simulation after simulation of the Death Game with Sara's probability of victory being the highest in all possible scenarios. He knew that he had to get in closer to observe, and he would get his chance.
During the Death Game, when the remaining survivors dwindled down to just six remaining. He made his debut as the Floormaster of the 4th and 5th Floor. Though, he needed a new name. And with a bit of helpful input from Sara, he would settle on the name of Midori.
The rules of his floor were simple. The remaining survivors and their dummy companions that were given to them would simply have to kill him. If they caused his death, then they would win. However, Midori would not make it so easy. His floor was laced with traps and puzzles, all attempting to kill the remaining survivors one-by-one. In him, there was hope that he would get to see the true psychological mind of his competitors, and especially Sara Chidouin.
But, for him, it was not to be. Sara remained that determined leader, grounded by her friendships with her group. And in a banquet of life and death, on the largest stage imaginable, Midori would find himself outwitted by a plan he could have never expected. A friendly policeman, a baseball player, and his very own interest, Sara, put an end to Midori's life. Facing his fear of death head on, his own trial was now complete.
Experience & Skill
![]() |
Midori is a fanatic, who always has everything down to his plan. This is why he is such a high-ranking member of ASU-NARO, and a genius in multiple capacities. He knows exactly the right ways to manipulate people into doing what he wants, and what to say in each situation. Sou even described him as an endless font of knowledge that always knew everything. This has expressly helped him survive multiple attempts on his life during the subgame, putting the participants in multiple difficult scenarios.
He is a very impressive coder, neurologist, and manipulator. He reconfigured the Maple AI and stuffed multiple more within her within a short period of time. His research developed the ability to manipulate the memories of others, using powerful technology and psychological conditioning. And he has singlehandedly managed to convince every participant of the Death Game to sign away their life while under a friendly demeanor. His most notable example is when he manipulated Keiji into shooting his idol, directly causing his spiral downwards in his life and him quitting his job.
Whether it be through dressing up as a friendly counsellor, retrieving information they want, or simply befriending them, Midori knows how a mind works and how exactly to get people to do what he wants. Even in the midst of a Death Game. In the banquet, he managed to trick Sara and the others to a near-guaranteed victory, if it weren’t for a last minute plan unbeknownst to him by Keiji and Q-taro with information he did not have. He had the combatants of the Death Game within his palm the entire time, until the very end.
Equipment
Collars
![]() |
Collars which are given to every participant in the Death Game, including the Floormasters. Though, they have different functions depending on the scenario. It essentially allows ASU-NARO complete control over who wears them, because they have a variety of effects, all directly lethal.
The most important part is their ability to kill the targets directly, with it being able to melt a person's head off of their neck, tighten them to suffocation, have plants grow out of their body numbing their sensation of death or simply explode their heads off. They are also nearly impossible to remove with brute force, as Q-taro was unable to remove it from his neck despite his strength. Midori can essentially activate or change the rules of the game at a whim, which reflects in his threats involving the collars. Both Sou and Midori have both taken off their collars however, though Midori isn’t in the habit of doing so in regards to fairness in the game.
They also have a Life Sensor included, which allows one to detect whether one of the wearers is alive or not. These collars are somewhat complicated in terms of how they will be used in this fight, so please see the Fight Setup to understand how they will play a part.
Gun
![]() |
A New Nambu M60, stocked with a total of four bullets. This gun is regularly used by Japanese Law Enforcement, and it’s most notably the same gun that Keiji used to shoot his idol. So, that’s a funny coincidence.
ID Card
![]() |
An ID card given to Maple so that she would stop bothering him with her obsessive crush. It is Midori’s ID card that allows him access to the traps within the facility as long as he has it on him. Essentially, all traps are locked to this ID card and his access as a floormaster.
Control Room
![]() |
Midori has the ability to survey the entire floor as the Floormaster, and can observe and speak to everyone via paintings or an intercom system. This is done through hidden cameras and monitors that are sorted throughout the floor, and it lets him gather information about the participants. He can also control the doors and elevators from this room, with the help of the Shin AI. Though, the AI can also help his opponents.
AI-Ceiver
![]() |
The AI-Ceiver is a room that Midori has access to which requires Midori’s ID to access. Its purpose is to create dolls, taking around 3 minutes in order to form a new doll. With Midori’s ID, it can implant an AI into a doll to make what is essentially a living being. The AIs are all intended participants of the death game and trained off of countless simulations on what they expect to happen, though they need to be updated periodically. In a sense, after that, they are basically normal people in which he can command to do as he pleases.
He can also use AIs for other purposes, but that will be divulged into later.
Abilities
Doll Physiology
![]() |
While Midori seems human enough, by his own admission, he is over 50% doll. It’s unknown how much is a doll and how much is human by this point, but it would be simpler to go over everything that comes with being a doll.
The dolls created by ASU-NARO are very strikingly close to humans, to the point where it’s incredibly difficult to tell whether they are dolls or not. But there are some very notable differences. Dolls don’t have human functions, and as such they can’t age or get sick and also don't need to use the bathroom. They are powered primarily by battery, with the head and the body having completely different sources. One doesn’t need the other to survive. Though, it’s unknown how much this specific aspect applies to Midori.
Dolls are fully capable of upgrading and augmenting themselves with various “upgrade parts” that can be found around the facility. Ranmaru for example had upgraded his hands to be able to shoot steam spray from his hands, change their voices, and stun people with electric shocks, and Midori himself can shoot out a flying rocket punch with his hands. It would be reasonable to assume that Midori has access to all of these upgrades.
But the most important thing is that the dolls don’t take lethal wounds like normal people. While it does drain their battery, they can still keep moving despite massive damage to their bodies, and even just as a head. For example, Kurumada got a hole blasted through him by Maple yet was still able to keep functioning until the Banquet, and Midori himself fell from a building and got impaled by a pole and was completely fine. While dolls aren’t immune to death, as wounds drain their battery more, it is quite likely that they can keep fighting until they do so.
Technological Mastery
Midori is extremely skilled at hacking, coding, and general technological construction. He converted a first trial execution into a complicated trap in a relatively short period of time, and was the designer of his entire floor. His best feat regarding technology is definitely his revival of Maple into Maple 2.0., where he stuffed a large amount of AIs into her to make her into a rampaging monster.
Memory Manipulation
![]() |
While it is not fully explained, Midori has the ability to manipulate memories with the right tools and equipment. This comes from his strong desire to fully understand and break the human mind, and he has done this to multiple participants, including wiping the memories of people who have already met him. It is likely that this is similar to Safalin's ability to manipulate memories and erase them, though it is never fully confirmed Midori’s own methods.
Traps and Trials
First Trials
![]() |
These are the First Trials that all participants had to undergo in order to survive. While Midori was not necessarily involved in the usage of the First Trials, he has been shown to reuse the rooms for his own purposes and turn them into traps for his own purposes. Thus, they will all be listed here accordingly.
- The Two Person Vote: Sara and Joe’s first trial, as well as Mishima + Nao’s, and Kanna + Kugie’s. This is a trial that requires trust in the other person. Only one key is given, and both contestants are strapped to a bed. The key can only unlock one person’s restraints and they have to solve a puzzle involving sanding down the key in order to unlock the other person’s restraints. If you fail, then you are crushed to death.
- Keiji’s Trial: An unseen trial involving Keiji Shinogi and Megumi Sasahara. One person could push a button to save the other, but if they didn't the other would be torn apart by chains.
- Locker Room Trial: A trial that Midori has directly weaponized. Originally, it was a game of trust where one person would kill the other unless they picked the same option, but Midori repurposed it to a trap where one has to place specific items in the correct lockers as they are swinging around. If one takes too much time, a magnetic collar pulls at their neck with increasing gravity until they die.
- Anzu’s Trial: A trial where Anzu was cuffed to the ground with approaching spikes. She died from being unable to move and being impaled.
- Kurumada’s Trial: A trial where Kurumada had to reach the other side of a room while the walls were closing in on him. He failed, and he was crushed to death.
- Mai’s Trial: A trial where Mai had to choose between two guns. One had live ammo and one was a blank, and she had to pick one to survive. If she didn’t pick any, she would die. She picked the wrong one and shot herself in the head.
- Hayasaka’s Trial: A swinging axe. It is unknown what the trial was, but Hayasaka was cut in half by this axe as a result of it.
Joe’s Execution (ASU-NARO)
![]() |
An execution used by Sue Miley to kill Joe Tazuna. Mechanical wrigglers slide in and inject themselves into a person’s body, slowly draining the blood from them until they die.
Nao’s Execution (ASU-NARO)
An execution used by Safalin to kill Nao Egokoro. It trapped around her waist and completely crushed her waist slowly. Though Sara could have ended it instantly with a single button press.
Security Systems (ASU-NARO)
![]() |
While in his ending, Sou did not get a direct execution, he was killed by the defense systems of the facility shooting him down directly. Though, he managed to have just enough energy left over to power through it and restart the Joe AI, giving Sara just a little bit of hope.
First Floor and Second Floor Puzzles (ASU-NARO)
![]() |
The puzzles and attractions found on the First Floor, headed by Sue Miley. It is likely that Midori could take at least some inspiration here.
- Russian Roulette: A game hosted by Meister, where in order to escape, one must load a gun with three real bullets and six dummy bullets. Then shoot everyone once inside the room, and the targets cannot be the same twice.
- Birdcage Game: A game that trapped Gin Ibushi. In order to free him, one must hold a button while flashing “masks” that attack the player. If one fails, then they are killed.
Third Floor Attractions (ASU-NARO)
![]() |
The traps and attractions on the second floor of the building, headed by Rio Ranger and Tia Safalin. Not used directly by Midori, but it’s very possible that he can take inspiration from them and has access to the resources used to create them.
- Memory Dance: A game where you play against three different opponents, having to mimic their moves exactly. If you fail, then you are restrained by wrigglers before being killed quickly.
- Charge Card Battle: A game where you battle against an opponent using Charge Cards. These cards can either shoot out a beam of energy, charge up your power, block a beam of energy, or do a special explosion attack. The charge cards cancel each other out like a rock-paper-scissors game, and death is by being blasted into a wall.
- Hide and Seek: A game where you pull levers in order to fill up a meter while avoiding dolls that are attempting to spot you. Or else they will kill you.
- Fly Swatter: A game where you swat flies, or else they will swarm you and kill you by bleeding you to death.
- Quick Draw: A game where you have to draw the correct item against an opponent, or else they will be stabbed to death.
- Spirit Shutter: A game where you have to fend off spirits by flashing them with your camera, while grabbing blue soul flames. Failure results in the spirit grabbing and killing you.
- Stay On Target: A game where you have to stand on top of a moving target, and if you fail then it will devour you whole, killing you.
- Arm-Wrestling Attraction: A game where you have to arm wrestle an opponent, and if you lose then they crush your skull.
- The Room of Lies: A room that quickly fills up with smoke, obscuring vision. Rio used this to replace Reko with a doll copy.
- The Final Attraction: The last attraction on the second floor. It is in essence, a complicated trap that forces one to sacrifice themselves in order to save the life of another. The most important part is that one of the contestants will be shot with Rikuto Scorpion Venom, which has a delayed but lethal effect. It’s strong enough to kill a grown man with five shots.
Fourth and Fifth Floor Traps
![]() |
Finally, we reach Midori’s own floor. He is the master of this floor and is thus in control of essentially all the traps. So, they will be listed as follows.
- Boxing Ring Trap: Upon passing through this room, lava will start pouring out at a high rate. In order to solve the puzzle, one must cut all the ropes in the boxing ring so that they are all one color.
- Locker Room Trap: A trap that pulls at the collars of those within it via magnetism. Already mentioned in the First Trial traps.
- Conduit Room: A room that can reset a person’s collar, especially if they were caught by the “tag” function. Forces everyone in the room to take an electric shock in order to gather enough charge to reset the collar.
- Coffins: Coffins that can lock a person inside and cremate them right on the spot, completely incinerating them. They are made of metal and very difficult to break out of, and controlled by the Control Room.
Support
The Monster
The first obstructor that the groups come across, aiming to kill Anzu. It is very physically powerful, being able to crush one of the metal coffins with its bare hands, with Anzu inside of it. It has two sets of armor, which are hiding a weak point’s core. The red bandages, and the skeletal armor. The bandages are electrified to the touch and the armor is durable enough that Kurumada, a trained boxer, cannot deal damage to it. Though, Q-Taro can damage it with a throw. The bandages are weak to fire, however. Once you get both of these sets of armor off, you can attack its weak point to finally stop it.
Book Obstructor
![]() |
An obstructor in the library. A floating book with teeth that primarily focuses on attacking Hayasaka. They are small, fast, and will keep on multiplying even if they are attacked. It will be to the point where they are too overwhelming to deal with. The way to beat this obstructor is by removing all noise in the area and being completely silent, and the obstructors will go away on their own.
Maple
![]() |
The strongest Obstructor, designed to specifically kill Midori. However, Midori inserted a love program into her code that made her unconditionally love him. While she isn’t necessarily interested in attacking others, she will go into a rage state if her love for Midori is challenged, attacking everyone in sight. It is in this state, black tendrils appear from her back, rapidly attacking everything around her. She is powerful enough to blow a hole straight through Kurumada, blow a hole through a thick metal door, and scratch up a metal door. She is so powerful, that she is the only competitor that Midori expects is able to kill him. However, she still relies on battery to run, so she can run out if she expends too much energy.
After a few mechanical adjustments, Midori adjusted Maple into being Maple 2.0., complete with many different AIs that confuses her programming, essentially keeping her in her rage state. She also has an additional chainsaw on her hands. To defeat her, they needed to stall her out until she lost battery completely, in which she turned on Midori and self-destructed, denting a metal coffin.
Hinako Mishuku
![]() |
Not actually Hinako Mishuku, but an imposter that replaced the original girl that died in the first trial. A woman pretending to be a middle school girl, she is an ASU-NARO agent who is likely assigned to make sure the game runs smoothly. While she does not have any special powers, she is comfortable with fighting with weapons, as she can fight using a torch or a shovel if given to her. She was also capable of reaching out to Maple, assuming she was in the correct mode, to calm her down. In essence, her main role was to act amongst the group and work as a failsafe for Midori, just in case anything went wrong.
Feats
Overall
![]() |
- Was responsible for the kidnapping, capturing, and signing away of all information in regards to the Death Game Participants.
- Helped set up the entire Death Game, and specifically his floor (The Fourth and Fifth Floors)

- Maple was still functional despite multiple of her AIs taking significant damages.
Scaling
Death Game Participants
![]() |
Midori was confident in his chances of surviving against most of the Death Game Participants, and he was the one who assisted in kidnapping quite a few of them. He should be logically superior to all of them, with the exception of perhaps Q-Taro, who is notably muscular and stronger than the rest. However, Maple would scale far above Q-Taro fully, as the strongest Obstructor.
- Keiji overpowered Mishima and put him into a chokehold.
- Kurumada can beat down a trained policeman, as well as multiple trained pro boxers.
- Kai Satou bashed Sue Miley's head with a frying pan, causing her to bleed.
- Sara and either Sou or Gin can break apart large wooden walls with 20 hits. (60-120 kilojoules)
- Sara can overpower the Arm Wrestling Dolls, which can crush a human skull.
- Sara can take hits from the Charge Card Dolls, which can crack holes in the wall. (1.47 megajoules)
- Q-Taro is twice as strong as Sara is.
- Sara, Sou, Gin, and Q-Taro are all capable of ducking under flying bats on a speeding minecart (Likely 35.7-65 m/s)
- Q-Taro can destroy the armor of the Monster obstructor with a single throw.
Weaknesses
![]() |
While Midori may act all high-and-mighty, he has two very crippling weaknesses which led to his downfall in the Death Game. The first was his crippling fear of death, and necessity to do anything to avoid it. This led to him switching coffins with Hinako Mishuku, altering his plans suddenly. Which then follows into his second weakness, which is his lack of ability to improvise under pressure. This was how Sara and co. finally cornered him, by constantly pushing against his words in a final battle until he cracked in annoyance, revealing his weakness. Thus, that was how Midori faced death for the first time in his life, and he was scared until the very end.
Abraham Gray
Background
![]() |
Not much is known about Reverend Abraham Gray. But if there was one thing that always tugged at his mind, it was his curiosity. Ever since he was young, he witnessed people’s faith in God, and he asked himself, how strong that faith in God can truly be. That question would be at the back of his mind for the rest of his life, and what would drive his motives from there on in the future.
Gray became the reverend at a small town, with people entranced by his charisma, he became very popular. So many believers were mesmerized by his speech, and his uncanny ability to see what really was in their hearts. In truth, this was a result of the drugs that he would be dosing his supporters with, but that did not matter. The people in this town had their absolute faith in him, and God. And it was during this time, he decided he would truly find out what drives people’s faith.
He would design an experiment, and founded a facility that would help him with these goals. His plan was simple, he would put those that believe in God into a trial. One where they would be hunted down by five killers, his “Angels”. And as the “God” of the building, he would see how strong their faith truly was. He needed killers, and he found them. The pure Angels that would give trials to the sinners.
The pure-hearted killer, Isaac “Zack” Foster. The sadistic warden, Catherine “Cathy” Ward. The eye-gouging counsellor, Daniel “Danny” Dickens. The childish gravedigger, Edward “Eddie” Mason. These angels would be set to begin the trial, and willing to kill sinners in order to truly test their belief in God. Abraham would observe their actions, and see how everything panned out in the eyes of God.
Though, there was one more Angel that Gray did not expect. Under the recommendation of Danny, Gray would let 13-year old Rachel “Ray” Gardner into the building as the final Angel. A girl who had sewn her parents back to life to create her perfect family. This would be the most important choice of his life, and the one that would let him truly understand what belief was.
The experiments went smoothly, with sinners being killed as Abraham went to observe their reactions as they traversed through the floor. But, one day, Rachel Gardner would read a bible, and realize her sins. She would view herself as a sinner, and the stress would make her undergo dissociative amnesia. She would forget all of her crimes, and upon the request of Danny, she would become a Sacrifice instead.
But Rachel was interesting. Upon being selected as a sacrifice, and upon a certain Isaac Foster breaking the rules and attacking another floormaster, the two would form a strong bond. One of ‘God’ and one of ‘believer’. This relationship piqued Gray’s curiosity the most of all, as they navigated through the building. This relationship and faith would be tested over and over, with Rachel’s beliefs challenged on whether she truly believes Zack is her ‘God’. She would kill his angels, and Gray soon realized that this trial would be his last.
As his angels died at the hands of Rachel and Zack, he realized one thing. They weren’t angels, and he wasn’t a God. They were all merely human beings, and using God’s mask was not something that a mere man should do. Ray and Zack would clear every single floor, and find out the truth behind this building. And as recompense, the reverend would give one final observation. The true growth of Rachel and Zack’s bond, with their unshakable belief in each other, not as God, but as people. In the last act, the facility that he built would self-destruct, and begin to collapse around him. Yet, he would guide Ray and Zack to an escape out of the building, and redeem himself for his hubris.
Abraham Gray would die in the collapsing facility, finally understanding the meaning of faith. And that would end the tale of God and his Angels.
Experience & Skill
![]() |
Most of Gray’s motives and mindset remains a mystery. A puzzle that is unable to be solved. But if there is one thing that he is good at, it’s understanding people’s desires. He was the one who set up the entire facility after all, and planned the entirety of the trials. From there, he would perform countless experiments to make trials that suit the sinner involved, and he would know exactly what they wish for, and the selfishness that comes with it. His ability to touch people’s desires is so great, that he could instantly pacify a crazed prisoner just with a few words. This has led to his extensive skill and resourcefulness in his building, developing it to his wishes, and especially creating psychological compounds to fit his needs.
Though, while he is a font of religious and psychological knowledge, his actual combat potential remains mostly unknown. However, he is clearly proficient in using certain weapons, like his bow and arrow. So, it is clear he has some specialties in combat.
Equipment
Hallucinogenic Gas
![]() |
A sweet smelling gas that he has in his hands that essentially allows Gray to manipulate the perceptions of those who breathe it in. It was granted to him by the previous reverend of the church, and refined by his own hand. In essence, he can basically control their senses and surroundings to such a degree that they can feel drowning, burning, pain, living creatures, or even existing in entirely different and impossible environments. This is so potent, that it even allowed a blind woman to see for the first time in her life. It also allows him to see a person’s deepest desires, which he used to great effect to manipulate various churchgoers in his town.
It seems to last as long as Abraham wants it to, and he can also dissipate its effects at will. He can also call it on the fly if he’s being directly attacked. His most notable uses of it was tricking Rachel Gardner into believing she was in a witch trial, and temporarily reviving all of the deceased Floor Guardians as witnesses. And at its best, it can completely incapacitate a person upon its use, making it a dangerous tool in his arsenal.
Bow
![]() |
A bow in the original game, and a crossbow in the adaptations. This is a weapon that Abraham has shown striking proficiency with, being able to shoot Danny to prevent him from killing both Rachel and Zack from a distance.
Floormasters
Isaac “Zack” Foster
![]() |
Isaac “Zack” Foster is the Floormaster of Floor B6, and the most “pure” angel out of all of them. He is a childish serial killer who was born into poverty and has been abused his entire life. To the point where his own mother lit him on fire, before covering him in cloth and abandoning him on the street. He would drift from the orphanage to the roads, killing people who mistreated him. He found it fun, especially the despair on their faces before death. That was when he was approached by Abraham Gray, to become the true Floormaster of Floor B6.
Zack’s physical capacity is absurd, being able to bash through walls and cut through entire people with a swing of his scythe. His scythe is incredibly heavy, slowing Rachel down in an attempt to carry it, yet he can swing it with ease. He also has an absurd pain tolerance, being able to resist being electrocuted for minutes on end, survive cutting open his own stomach, and take multiple painful bites from animals at once. Despite this, he is capable of powering on without much of an impediment.
Zack is not that smart, and he doesn’t even know how to read, but he is very tenacious and resourceful. For example, he resisted Abraham's gas by stabbing himself. That shows with his partnership with Rachel Gardner. They have incredible synergy, with the two of them being able to solve problems the other can’t. This is especially interesting, because Rachel wants Zack to be the one to kill her at the end of the story. And once they escaped the building, Zack would make that wish come true.
Gregory Campbell
![]() |
The “temporary” Floormaster of Floor B6, before Isaac Foster took over. Gregory Campbell was a man living in the religious commune of a woman named Deborah Frost. The woman reached out to him, and offered a chance for him to enact justice on the world as her “devil”, freeing people from the hells of the Earth. However, Deborah was invited to Gray’s building during its construction, and Campbell was brought along. In the end, Campbell killed Deborah, having been tired of her speak of the devil. In return, Abraham offered Campbell one of the positions as an angel, if only temporary.
He wields large garden sheers and is superhumanly strong, able to easily cut apart humans without much effort. Though, he doesn’t seem to have very many thoughts otherwise. Oddly enough, he seems to leave most of his victims alive, just horribly maimed, much to the chagrin of other floormasters. This is because he is not a true angel, and also subject to an experiment to see how pure he was. Because he wasn’t pure, Abraham let him go free. It was in this freedom, he was killed by Isaac Foster.
Daniel “Danny” Dickens
![]() |
Dr. Daniel “Danny” Dickens is a former prison counsellor turned into Angel after a meeting with Abraham Gray. He is the floormaster of Floor B5. While presenting himself as normal, Gray saw his true, twisted mask that would make him perfect to become an angel. His desire to gouge out the eyes of those around him, and store them for his own admirance. He has a preference for dead, despairful eyes, much like his favorite patient, Rachel Gardner. These eyes reminded him of his own mother, who killed herself after seeing his missing eye. He collected eyes by gouging them out of his patients, being strong and precise enough to do it as he pleases even if he’s still weaker than Zack. He is also incredibly proficient at setting up traps, having helped design the traps of Floor B1 at the Floormaster’s request.
Dr. Danny is surprisingly resilient and capable. His intellect has been noted to be a very strong asset for Gray. He holds a gun which he is a decent shot with, but also he’s cheated death more than twice. The first, when Isaac Foster attacked him and cut him open, which he survived due to body armor and fake blood. The second time, he managed to crawl his way down from Floor B1 to B2, up a set of long stairs, activate the self-destruct sequence, and attack Zack and Rachel one more time. Though, he was finally put down by Gray himself, for overstepping his indulgence.
Edward “Eddie” Mason
![]() |
Edward “Eddie” Mason is a 12 year old boy who was born into a family of gravediggers. He wears a mask and a shovel, and has an obsession with corpses. He specifically cares about preserving them and making them his, by digging graves for them. He is the new floormaster of Floor B4, after Shin. A very fit and agile young man, who can seemingly control the lights on his floor, he uses the darkness to sneak up on unsuspecting opponents before attacking them. As a result of his activity in the night and in dark, he has excellent night vision and hearing. He generally prefers to finish fights by digging graves for them.
He is strong enough to somewhat contend with Isaac Foster in a direct clash. The two of them even fought over a certain Rachel Gardner, and he can also dodge his attacks. Though he was eventually overwhelmed and killed by the crazed killer, buried in his own graves that he loved so much.
Shin
![]() |
The original Floormaster of Floor B4. Shin was originally one of two twins that acted as a pair of serial killers. He is a furniture crafter who made furniture out of the body parts of his victims. However, in order to become one of Gray’s Angels, he needed to “complete” himself by killing his twin brother. Finally complete, he joined the experiment. He formed a strong bond with Edward Mason, and the two of them discussed their love of artistry with each other.
Ever the artistic killer, he can use massive dolls made out of human implements and control them like marionettes. This allows him to kill and cut in his own twisted ways, for other people to be used as his furniture. Though, eventually, he stopped being able to create his own perfect works of art, as nothing satisfied him anymore. With both himself and Abraham considering Shin’s position of Floormaster unworthy, he killed himself and turned his body into a mirror. He left his floor to Eddie, who would cherish it for the rest of his days.
Catherine “Cathy” Ward
![]() |
Catherine “Cathy” Ward is the Floormaster of Floor B3. She is a former prison jailer who takes great pleasure in punishing “sinners”, especially with her traps and tribulations. She loves making a grand show out of her victims, with all of her traps being very dramatic and full of flair. She has control over her entire floor, which includes guns, poison, and other complicated technological traps that any sacrifice must navigate through.
She has many different ways of torturing her victims, even outside of her traps. She directly carries a handgun, flamethrower, and multiple methods of painfully electrocuting enemies if she so desires. With her view of herself as a punishing warden, she was a perfect fit to be an angel. Though, her downfall came when she underestimated Rachel Gardner, and was shot. Before eventually being killed by Isaac Foster, one of her ideal sinners to kill.
Rachel “Ray” Gardner
![]() |
Rachel “Ray” Gardner is the main protagonist of the game. A 13-year old girl with no memories, waking up on Floor B6. She escaped from Zack and went to Danny’s floor, who threatened to take her eyes. But, due to Zack breaking the rules and going to Danny’s floor, the two of them had to work together to surpass the trials of the rest of the Angels. Rachel has dead, emotionless eyes, like a doll, and doesn’t show much emotion otherwise. But, despite this, alongside Zack, she has proven herself to be incredibly intelligent and resourceful. She had managed to solve most of the puzzles on every floor, including Cathy and Eddie’s floors. This would involve so many lethal and dangerous trials that she would go through. She even surpassed Abraham’s own trial, impressing him. This is due to her being very good at using the resources around her, such as using crowbars to wedge open locked doors, using the darkness to escape Zack, escaping an isolated poison trap puzzle by turning the gas into an explosion being a good shot with her gun against Cathy, using Zack’s scythe to solve Cathy’s electricity puzzle, figuring out the true exit to the building, and outmaneuvering Eddie in the darkness. Despite not being the most physically inclined, she still managed to outwit most of the Floormasters.
She and Zack would climb all the way to floor B1, the top floor of the building. That was when Rachel Gardner would remember the horrifying truth. She was the Floormaster of Floor B1, brought to the building by Gray upon Danny's request. This was a result of her twisted desire to sew things together to make them perfect, including her abusive parents. She would fashion her floor with various traps, and live there quietly and happily, until she would understand that she was a sinner. Having a mental breakdown, the only chance she had was to go down to the bottom floor as one of Gray’s “Sacrifices”. With a handgun given to her by Danny, she would be the last sacrifice that the building ever had, as it went down along with her.
The only thing that Rachel desires is her own death, and her death at the hand of Isaac Foster in particular. Though she escaped and was placed in a mental ward, Isaac came out to find her, and the two of them died together in each other’s arms.
Floors
Floor B6
![]() |
The bottom-most floor, designed most similarly to an old city. There aren’t many traps on this floor, and it seems to just be a hunting ground for the Floormaster. Whether it be Zack or Gregory, many people have fallen victim to this very first floor. Zack stalks this floor at astonishingly high speeds, and is willing to cut down anyone who he finds in its darkness.
Floor B5
![]() |
The floor of Daniel Dickens. It takes the form of a medical building, hosting many computers, devices, and eye-related imagery. The way Danny uses this floor is a seemingly friendly, reprieve floor compared to the inherently hostile Floor B6. But it is all a ruse, as Danny will lead the victim into a false sense of security and trust in order to examine their eyes, and once they trust in him, he will tie them to a bed and gouge out their eyes. The floor also has various medical supplies, which can be used for treating wounds.
Floor B4
![]() |
A floor that is filled with gravestones and tools for making and maintaining graves. It used to be full of human furniture pieces, before Eddie, the current Floormaster, buried them out of respect to his former best friend, Shin. This floor is more akin to a maze than anything, with Eddie haunting through the floor in the darkness. He can control the lights on this floor, and will use it to sneak up and attack any sacrifices that he wishes to bury.
The floor is made up of enough dirt that Eddie can dig very large holes, and he fills them up with coffins and bodies of those he has killed.
Floor B3
![]() |
The floor of Catherine Ward. It is designed like a prison, much like her original job that she is familiar with. She has a system that can monitor the entire floor to her desires, as well as control guns that can shoot out at those who need execution. She has a wide variety of traps at play, whether it be an electric chair, a spike pit trap, or a poison gas puzzle. All require extensive skill in solving puzzles in order to solve. She also has a drug which she can inject into people that causes nightmares and hallucinations, like it did to Zack. Causing him to become wildly aggressive and not distinguish friend from foe. Cathy also has a large amount of inmates within her cell, starving for life. Though they're weak enough that Zack can kill them in one stomp but strong enough to pose a threat to an ordinary human, where Rachel needed to shoot them through the defense systems.
It was no match for Rachel and Zack’s cleverness and tenacity though, as they surpassed all of the puzzles and killed Cathy for good.
Floor B2
![]() |
The floor of Abraham Gray, which takes the form of a holy church. Very similar to the one he used to run. He has surveillance cameras where he can monitor the entire building from this floor, as well as it containing the true exit to the facility. He generally stands here playing an organ, and greeting those who come by him. Then, he will afflict them with his hallucinogenic gas, to see into their hearts and mind.
His floor also has snakes which can attack people, as well as boiling water and electricity traps that Rachel needed to overcome.
Floor B1
![]() |
The final floor of the building, added on as a request from Danny. It is Floor B1, which takes on the form of a suburban house. It is very similar to the one that the Floormaster, Rachel Gardner, used to live in. However, it is laced with an unbelievable amount of traps that were set up by Rachel and Danny. This includes traps that collapse the ceiling, traps that unleash ravenous dogs, arrow traps that fire a wide large amount, bathtub traps, pit traps, fire traps, a really spicy pizza, and a god-damn Indiana Jones boulder. Despite being the last floor, there is no exit on it, as it is on Floor B2.

Gray is more of an observer than anything, with his most direct involvement just being at the end where he stopped Danny from killing Rachel and Isaac. This is what led to the fall of his building, as things went into disarray while he simply observed.
The Angels did have a falling out after Zack appeared, and stopped talking to each other for a bit. Though, none of them (sans Rachel) are particularly interested in dying, and they all share common goals. Still, some relationships can be shaky as a result.
His gas can be powered through with enough pain, as Zack overpowered it by stabbing through his hands to bring himself back to reality.
Zack does have a pretty notable fear of fire, though with Rachel around he is able to overcome it when in severe danger.

The Setup
Because these two are such atypical combatants, generally being trapmasters and hosts rather than direct fighters. It is important to lay some ground rules for how they will interact with each other in the upcoming battle.
As stated, both will be getting all resources they have access to. This is important because they will have time to prepare a mutual “building” that they will share for the upcoming game. The combatants can set or lay any kind of trap or puzzle they want during this preparation phase. This process is done independently, so there will be no attacking or sabotage in the preparation phase. Both parties are interested in a fair game, though they will not have prior knowledge on their opponents and what they can do.
The building will consist of rooms in which the two of them will have control and surveillance over, like they do in their canon series. But only the rooms that they have prepared specifically. There is no limit to how they can set up these rooms, as long as it is in line with their canon appearances.
Once the game begins, there are a few stipulations. First, all combatants will be wearing collars. This is to ensure that all of Midori's traps work, because multiple are based around the collars. However, Midori will be forbidden from using his collars to inflict an instant-kill in a way that violates the integrity of the game. This means that he can't just decide to blow up Abraham's head, and can only do so if he failed a puzzle for example. Like he does to Ranmaru if you fail the electric shock puzzle or Miley did to Mishima.
The goal of the game is simple, and much akin to the Murderer Subgame in YTTD. The side that kills the other's figurehead (Midori and Abraham themselves) will be crowned the victor. The losing side will be killed if the winning side completes their goal. This can either be by physically killing their opponent, or using a trap to do so.
Both sides can traverse the facility that they set up at will, though obviously have to be wary of traps set by either side. Until then, the two sides can hide and survive in whatever way they please. The Banquet will not be granted to Abraham's side, as the conditions of this fight state that the only way to win this is by winning this specific game.
The Board
The first stage of the twisted game are the obstacles that will be placed in front of each of these hosts. Who's traps in the preparation phase are more deadly, and more likely to be harmful in the fight? The winner of this category will likely be determining the pace of the fight, and the other will most likely be forced to play along in a setting that is more unfriendly to them.
The both of them share a lot of abilities on the surface. Both of them have access to gun and arrow traps, with the security system and Cathy's bullet executions being quite evenly matched in this regard. The electric chair trap is matched by the conduit game, both of them have access to fairly slow-acting poison, they share crushing traps, heating capabilities, explosive powers, and so much more. However, when you directly compare the traps in their arsenal, Midori has a larger pool of resources to draw from.
ASU-NARO is clearly more technologically advanced and researched, and it shows in multiple traps that Gray and his angels don't have direct comparisons to. The attractions on Floor 3 are already clearly technologically superior to what Gray's own facility contains. The bloodsucking wrigglers, the attractions with special abilities like Charge Card Battle and Stay on Target, Midori's own lava trap, the locker room trap, the library with the Book Obstructor, and even stuff like the birdcage game are hi-tech traps that Gray's own guns and arrows have no direct comparison to. Most of Gray's traps are very crude in comparison.
Though, a notable advantage is that a lot of Gray's traps aren't necessarily “solvable” like Midori's are. Nearly every one of Midori's traps has had a solution which could be puzzled out by a resourceful enough player, while a good portion of Gray's traps are just attacks that will harm you. However, this advantage is clearly not enough to override the sheer technological advantage that Midori has access to with his pool of resources from ASU-NARO. Thus, it seems like Midori will take control of the board.

The Players
But what is a game without its players? The second category will zoom out to take a look at the combatants themselves, and determine who has the more innate advantages when going into the battlefield. So let us analyze their allies and themselves, to see who will have to play the better game to survive.
Let us look at Midori first, and his two nameless Obstructors, Maple, and Hinako Mishuku. They have some fairly notable advantages on their side. First off, Midori is the single most intelligent person in this game. He is described as very smart, he has had more experience in this kind of scenario, as he actively participated in his own death game rather than just hosting it, and he has actively applied his technological construction in the midst of a death game as shown with Maple. This would naturally put him ahead in strategy. It's not like fellow ASU-NARO agent Hinako Mishuku is a slouch either, and especially how she managed to deceive the main Death Game participants into believing she was on their side. Midori also has access to the AIs and Dolls of multiple of the participants of the Death Game, who are all also fairly intelligent in their own right. Though, the Obstructors are mostly mindless, with the only sapient one (Maple) not having many intelligence feats to speak of.
He, by himself, is stronger than most of the Angels without weapons. A lot of the Angels don't necessarily have absurd feats of strength physically. Danny can easily gouge out eyeballs, and Eddie can dig large graves, but Midori restraining Sara who can take a hit from the Charge Card Dolls outdoes most of the low-superhuman feats performed by the weaker Angels in strength. The other Obstructors would scale to this, as even a kid like Gin can take a hit from them. So, the Monster Obstructor, the Book Obstructor, and even Hinako Mishuku (with a weapon) would be physically superior.
Except. For. One.
Isaac Foster is the strongest Angel by a longshot, with his ability to shatter walls matching Midori to even being 2x stronger than his value. With him swinging such a heavy scythe around, Zack is the only Angel that Midori could not directly overpower in a physical fight.
But that is where his trump card comes in, and that is the strongest Obstructor, Maple. She would upscale from Q-Taro, who is around 2x the value of someone like Sara. While that multiplier may not necessarily be direct, the point is that she is a completely unstoppable force that scales far above the 1.47 megajoule value, and it would be likely that even Zack would struggle to keep up. Maple would be the single most deadly fighter on the field, and getting hit by her would probably be really bad for anyone involved.
But, let's talk in favor of the Angels now. Because they all have a pretty sizable advantage over all of Midori's support is that they are all incredibly quick on their feet. Literally. Midori is nimbler than the Death Game participants, who can react to flying bats on speeding minecarts. That's subsonic in speeds, being at around 65 m/s if you assume the fastest bat and fastest minecart rollercoaster. Around Mach 0.2. Rachel, who all of the Angels should be superior to at minimum, can outrun bullets in short bursts which is Mach 0.8 at the low-end, and Mach 4.8 on the high-end! That's an over 24x speed gap in terms of reactions and burst speed. And Zach is Mach 1.7 to 8.6 from his arrow dodging capabilities, which would be even faster than that! This means all of the Angels are easily capable of running circles around Midori and his support, despite their physical inferiority. Even if they obviously aren't running at bullet speeds all the time, it's pretty clear that there is no way Midori or the Obstructors will ever tag them without completely overwhelming them. This practically nullifies Midori and Maple's physical strength advantage, and puts the stats court squarely in their favor.
Another thing in the Angel's favor is their capacity to work together. Despite them all seeming like insane serial killers, and despite them having falling outs in the past, none of the Angels wish to die. In fact, Eddie, Shin, Danny, Gray, and Cathy all worked together to make a perfect art project to torture a man. That's already precedent for them collaborating if the situation calls for it. As for Zack and Rachel, the entire game is predicated on them working together. Zack's not a fan of the other Angels, but he also isn't a fan of dying, so collaborating to defeat Midori isn't unlikely. Especially because Midori's general demeanor would be something Zack would hate a lot.
In comparison, Midori's support is either mindless (Monster and Book Obstructors) or he hasn't cooperated very well with. Most of the doll AIs are of generally nice and reasonable people, who end up not liking Midori very much due to his evilness. Midori seems to treat Maple like a pretty notable nuisance, and it's difficult to imagine any collaborative efforts in between them that doesn't involve hotwiring her AI. And Midori outright betrayed Hinako, letting her die in the Banquet. While the Angels have had falling outs before, only Midori has actively discouraged his allies when they shared a common goal.
It should also note that all of the Angels carry weapons on them. Rachel, Danny, and Cathy all wield guns. Eddie has his shovel. Gregory has shears. And Gray has his crossbow. Midori also has a gun and his rocket fist, but the Obstructors don't have any weapons and someone like Hinako needs to scavenge a weapon first. This would apply to the other dolls. Which, as another note, are very liable to get easily ripped apart by Zack. Though Midori can create more, it takes time and they are mostly just normal people.
Looking at the individual qualities of the players in the game, it seems like the Angels come out ahead. With a greater variety of weapons, more quality units and teamwork, and a massive speed advantage that can cancel out a strength advantage. The better players go to Gray and the Angels.

The Game
With one side winning the board, and the other side winning the hand, the way to decide the victor is to see how the game plays out. How does each side leverage their advantage into a victory, and who will come up short? Well, lets look into it, and see how both sides can overcome the other’s advantage.
Midori, we have a direct example of how he plays this kind of game. The first thing he does upon explaining the rules to the participants, is to immediately run away and hide while observing the building. This is a fairly attractive proposition against all of the Angels, especially with someone that’s physically superior to him like Zack. Meanwhile, the Angels have not necessarily been participants in a Death Game like the one in this fight, but they are all very aggressive killers. If they are told that they need to kill Midori, they will most likely go on the aggro. So, with their gameplans set, can Midori fend off the eight killers that are hunting him down through the building? And get past them in order to kill Gray?
Well, those traps that Midori has set up will be useful here. The Angels tend to operate as independent entities, even if they are capable of working together. The only ones that they ALL generally respond to is Gray, but in a Death Game scenario and with Gray’s hands-off approach, it’s likely that they aren’t all going to be sticking together side-by-side that often. There are a few exceptions, obviously. Rachel and Zack are very likely to stay together, and Danny is probably going to follow them from a distance due to his obsession. Eddie and Shin will also move together, as they have a very strong bond especially when it comes to killing. That leaves Cathy, Gregory, and Gray on their own. From his defensive position, could Midori pick off any of these groups with his traps?
Well, both Cathy and Gray aren’t really “hunters” like the rest of them are. Cathy is a trapmaster and Gray is an observer. The both of them are more likely to stay in their side’s locations that they have prepared personally, and activate their traps from there. This means by themselves, they’re unlikely to encounter any of Midori’s traps. Though, even if they did, their prior experience in traps means that any puzzles Midori throws at them, they might have inherent knowledge on how something like it works. Both Gray and Cathy are quite intelligent, and could probably solve a puzzle if it came down to them.
Gregory on the other hand, is as dumb as a rock. He single-mindedly focuses on killing and maiming, and would be very easy for Midori to manipulate. If he gets caught in a room by himself with a trap that blocks off his escape, he won’t be able to solve it unless it’s a pure physicality challenge. Midori could very easily get rid of him if he pleased.
What about Eddie and Shin? These two are far from dumb, per se, but they have a weakness in that they both are decently susceptible to manipulation. Shin, more so than Eddie. Shin’s feelings of inferiority were incidentally manipulated into causing him to kill his twin brother, and it’s not unreasonable to believe Midori could take advantage of that. Eddie would be a little bit more difficult, because he hates most adults that aren’t Shin. But, he is a big fan of gravedigging, and convincing him that everyone else on his team hates graves could be an avenue of manipulation for Midori. If the two of them got caught in a trap, if it’s a physical trap then they could most likely make it out unscathed, but they have no direct feats of solving more puzzle-based traps like the Locker Room or the Boxing Ring Puzzle. So, while it may take a bit of effort, it is possible that Midori could eliminate the both of them or turn them against Gray.
But, then you have the most dangerous group. Zack, Danny, and Rachel. Zack and Danny kind of hate each other, but they’ll probably be tied together by Rachel’s presence, and none of them are interested in dying. So, what can Midori do here? Well, Danny is probably too smart to be manipulated, as he would be familiar with a lot of those tactics from his time as a counsellor. Zack would hate every single word that comes out of Midori’s mouth, because Midori is exactly the kind of person that Zack would hate. He in particular hates being used as a tool. And Rachel’s bond with Zack is very significant, so she likely would rather stick with Zack than be controlled by Midori. So, what would happen if Midori started throwing traps at them?
Well, it’s quite simple. Rachel has had extensive experience being tossed in scenarios where she is forced to think fast in order to survive. Pretty much every single floor in Gray’s building is a trap in some way. While it is true that the resources that Midori has access to are more hi-tech than the ones that Gray has, the premise is still the same. Most puzzles in YTTD are very solvable, and you’re given a fair amount of time to solve them. With the help of Danny’s own intellect, and Zack’s sheer physical strength, even the more complicated traps like the Book Obstructor or the Locker Room traps should be able to be solved. The former requires you to be quiet in a library and the latter requires you to have basic puzzle-matching skills. A lot of Midori’s traps are like that, which can be solved with some decently good problem solving and observation skills. Rachel’s feat of figuring out how to blow up Cathy’s poison gas, her own familiarity with traps, and her experience in surviving in death games should allow her to easily keep up with Midori’s tribulations. Especially with her support. This poses a really large problem, as Zack and Rachel are the most dangerous group to Midori, and are even superior to a group like Eddie and Shin. So, Midori likely being unable to manipulate them is problematic.
So, if Midori plays completely defensive, he is only solidly getting rid of Gregory, Eddie, and Shin. And he can’t keep up that defense forever, lest the rest of the Angels find him and kill him. So, how does he play offensively? Well, a physical confrontation with any of the Angels is hardly an option for Midori, despite his superiority in strength. Pretty much every Angel either carries a gun on them which Midori isn’t bulletproof against, or another weapon that would let them physically contend with Midori. If he confronts Zack, Ray, and Danny, then Ray and Danny have guns and Zack himself is a monster that is even beyond Midori’s own physical capacities. If he confronts Eddie and Shin, then Shin’s puppetry and Eddie’s stealth could very easily take down Midori. Cathy doesn’t do direct confrontations, and is more likely to try and force Midori into a trap, which he likely could survive due to his superior intellect, but it still would be a nuisance.
And if he managed to directly confront Gray, it is unlikely that he would pull a win in that scenario either. Gray’s first move in almost any scenario is to instantly spray a person with gas. This allows him to manipulate their perception, and essentially incapacitate them on the spot. In which, he could then use his crossbow to shoot Midori multiple times until he is dead. But! Midori is a doll right? And dolls are inorganic, so a drug should not work, right? Well, it’s a little bit more complicated than that.
Midori is mostly a doll, and he explicitly stated that he is over 50% doll. He even pulled a Junko and donated a bunch of his body parts to other people, so it’s unknown how much of him is really human at this point. He’s even gotten stabbed through where his brain should be and been completely fine. But, we know that a part of him is still human. It’s not like he has an AI in that body after all. Surviving being stabbed through the brain isn’t a guarantee that a hallucinogen wouldn’t work, as they do more than just affect the brain. With the kinds of things Gray can do with his gas, it most likely affects your entire nervous system since it affects essentially all of your senses. It would be difficult to say Midori has shed that completely as well, because he still interacts with the world like a normal person. So, in a direct confrontation, the gas should work as an incapacitation option, even with Midori’s cybernetic body.
But what about sending his minions to confront the Angels? Well, while he can create dolls with the AI-Ceiver, they’re not really suited for any combat scenario and are very likely to be cut apart by the stronger members. Hinako would fall into the same boat, as her specialty is more manipulation, which only works on a select few angels. So, that’ll just leave his stronger dolls. The Monster Obstructor has electrified armor, though someone like Zack heavily resists electricity. The armor can also be destroyed with a good few swings, so it’s not likely to be much of a threat. However, Maple going on a rampage would be a large problem for the Angels. As Maple’s strength surpasses even Zack’s. If she were to attack them, then certain death would come.
If… the Angels weren’t all so much faster. The way Maple was beaten both times in YTTD was by exhausting her out of her battery by forcing her to take actions. Every single Angel is 5x faster at worst and 24x faster at best than Maple. So while they can’t directly stop her, it is likely they can avoid her rampage until she runs out of battery. While someone like Zack wouldn’t get the memo, it’s likely enough that Rachel would, and Maple becomes straightforward enough to beat by that point.
And, looking at how this game unfolds. It seems like Midori is completely out of options. The best of the Angels are smart enough or strong enough to outdo his traps, and the speed gap is too significant than even his best minions wouldn’t be able to keep up. No matter if he plays aggressively or defensively, it doesn’t seem like he has the tools to secure a kill on Gray.
And that speed gap is important, because the Angels hunting down Midori is a much easier task for them. With such an incredible advantage, a quickdraw on the gun could quickly put down Midori if the Angels ever make it to the same room as him. Doll physiology could help him survive a few shots, but they could just keep attacking. Zack in particular is even faster than the rest of the Angels, and could instantly pin down Midori if he ever found them.
In fact, if Midori ever got pincered in the facility by two or more groups, then it would most likely be completely over for him. The Angels don’t have any human restrictions like the YTTD cast, and they would probably be directly interested in taking him down with ease. Getting caught in Eddie’s darkness would be a free kill for Midori, and so would Zack just ripping his head off. With such a speed gap, and the amount of combatants hunting him down, it is difficult to imagine even Midori escaping such a scenario. And as said, if he confronts Gray himself, not only does Gray scale to Rachel’s speed, but the hallucinogenic gas is a perfect incapacitation option. This makes for a game that is heavily stacked against Midori, because he isn’t fighting a group of survivors, but instead a set of monsters who are willing to kill at a moment’s notice, and will be constantly inflicting pressure on Midori to play perfectly to win.
And that’s an important thing to note about Midori. He has cracked under intense pressure in the past, especially when Sara pressed him during the Banquet. If things don’t go his way, then he’ll struggle to use his intellect to think of a new plan. Meanwhile, Rachel, Zack, and the other angels are just the right amount of crazy and adaptable that they can survive whatever Midori throws at them. If Midori’s gameplan fails, then he’ll be put in a position where he’s going to struggle to think of a way out, and an opening will form for any of the Angels to put him down for good.
While Midori himself is a monster and a madman, it seems like his craziness is just outnumbered by the Angels. When deciding who wins this game, Abraham Gray and his Angels have the advantage over the madman.

"Haha... Who I want to be today, ‘asu-naro’ - tomorrow, I will be. We can call it the Asunaro vow. I know! I'll make an agreement form! To give form to your determination, Shin!"
Advantages:
- Physically stronger than all of the Angels except for Zack.
- Maple is the physically strongest combatant in the fight, including Zack…
- Is more experienced in this type of Death Game.
- The most intelligent combatant in the fight. Would likely help him escape Cathy’s traps.
- Doll Physiology could help him power through lethal hits.
- Likely to play defensive, meaning the Angels will have to track him down and fight through his traps.
- Could potentially manipulate a few members, like Gregory, Shin and Eddie…
- Superior and more technologically advanced traps, especially with ASU-NARO’s other resources…
- Technically outnumbers due to his ability to create dolls with the AI-ceiver…
- Dolls and obstructors would be immune to Abraham’s gas…
Disadvantages:
- Far slower than all of the Angels.
- Less good under pressure than Rachel and Zack are.
- Support is either mindless or not particularly coordinated with him.
- Outnumbered in terms of actually relevant combatants.
- Certainly not bulletproof, which is problematic when most Angels have guns.
- …but can run out of battery if exhausted too much, which applies to the other dolls.
- …but Zack would probably hate whatever Midori says, Rachel would follow Zack, and Danny, Cathy, and Gray are likely too smart or opposed to Midori’s personality to be manipulated in a winning way for a Death Game scenario.
- …but not that much more difficult to solve than what Rachel has encountered in the facility, meaning that she and the other Angels can solve the traps to survive.
- …but the dolls he creates are less useful than the Angels are.
- …but Midori himself isn’t likely to be due to only being part-doll.

“Tell me father. What is it about humans that you saw through this place?”
“That is a good question. But sadly, I saw nothing particularly new. They were blind… ugly… and beautiful. Nothing more.”
Advantages:
- Every Angel is significantly faster than Midori and his obstructors are.
- Zack is the strongest character on the battlefield sans Maple.
- The angels all have worked together before in a more coordinated manner than Midori’s support has.
- Zack and Danny’s absurd pain tolerance could allow them to power through potentially lethal attacks by Midori or his traps.
- Eddie’s enhanced senses would be incredibly useful for getting the jump on Midori in the dark. It also renders the steam upgrade part useless.
- Rachel is resourceful enough to be able to solve most of Midori’s puzzles and traps that he has access to. Danny, Cathy, and Gray should also be intelligent enough to help.
- Rachel is much better at thinking under pressure than Midori is.
- Zack’s straightforward and pure personality would make him difficult to manipulate, as well as Rachel’s belief in him. Danny, Cathy, and Abraham are also unlikely to fall for Midori’s manipulation in the midst of a Death Game.
- The Angels have a much more diverse set of weaponry than Midori does, which allows them to all remain a threat to Midori simultaneously.
- Can use their superior speed to run out Maple’s battery, allowing them to survive her rampage.
- Abraham’s gas should most likely work on Midori, functioning as an instant incapacitation option.
Disadvantages:
- Everyone, including Zack, is weaker than Maple.
- If Midori ever kills Zack, the Angels are pretty heavily gutted because he’s the strongest member.
- The Angels, outside of Rachel and Zack, have never experienced being the participants in a Death Game before.
- The Angels have had falling outs before, which Midori can take advantage of. Especially in manipulating more single-minded members like Gregory or Eddie.
- Cathy’s traps are technologically inferior to the resources Midori has access to with ASU-NARO.
- Technically outnumbered due to Midori’s ability to create dolls.
- Midori’s dolls aren’t organic, so Shin probably wouldn’t be able to puppet them.
This was a very complex battle to be sure. Giving these two an entire facility and all of their support to work with makes it so that a lot of interpretations can happen. Perhaps Midori could play a perfect game, manipulate and pick off the Angels with well-timed traps and kill Gray directly. But with the speed gap, that is far too unlikely. The Angels have more relevant players in the game, and have the means to dismantle Midori’s grand plan one-by-one, forcing him to think on his feet. And due to Midori’s struggle under pressure, it is unlikely he’ll be able to properly think of a new plan in time before the Angels pincer and kill him directly.
Any forward confrontation with the Angels will lead to his death, and they can survive any defensive play as well. Meanwhile, Midori will struggle to kill Gray due to the Angels hunting him down, and Gray’s instant incapacitation option with his hallucinogenic gas. Midori may have more resources to pull from, and the technology advantage he has isn’t insignificant, but the resourcefulness of Angels like Rachel and Zack would likely allow them to escape any difficult puzzles. The diverse set of weaponry that every Angel has means that every Angel has the opportunity to kill Midori, and the speed gap means that he can’t really fight back despite his own physical superiority. At best, he might be able to take down one or two of the Angels, but stronger ones such as Zack can pick up the slack to kill him.
So, with all of the data analyzed, the possibilities simulated, and the game set, it seems like Abraham Gray and his Angels shall remain the victors of this Death Game. Let the curtains close on this story.
Afterword
Thanks for reading! Fun story, this used to be set for Zack VS Scarlet, and then Zack VS Cutthroat. From I’m the Grim Reaper and Akudama Drive respectively. But then I realized that Zack was not built for either of those guys (Scarlet's fighting people who burst through whole ass moons bro). So, while I was figuring out what to do, I remembered that Your Turn To Die is one of my favorite games of all time, and this kind of a match would allow me to do a really fully comprehensive coverage on both series. So that’s where I slotted it in! Angels of Death is cool, though it’s obviously really edgy but it’s fun enough. I would recommend experiencing the story through the manga, because the art is really pretty, it has content that the games don’t have, and it’s a visually more interesting experience than the anime.
As for YTTD, play it. It’s one of the best death game stories out there and you won’t regret it. We’re all waiting for that Final Chapter to come out, and this was such a good excuse to replay the series in preparation for it. This is a matchup I concocted on my own, because it has a really unique setup and I don’t think there’s any other way this could work outside of a blog. It was really fun telling you about two very unique and special games in my life!
I have a few other blogs coming up, though these ones aren’t directly written by me. They’re instead written by a few friends. If you’re around on the Discord servers I’m in, then you would know that a friend is currently working on The Bakery VS The Foundation (Cookie Clicker VS SCP Foundation) and work on that has been progressing smoothly. But, most importantly, another friend of mine is working on a blog for two series that are very special to him, and that’s the next time. So, let’s check it out.
